PATENT OFFICE.
- ELSIE TERRY, OF ST; LOUIS, MISSOURI.
ELECTRIC OVEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 10, 1922.
Application filed August 12, 1920. Serial No. 402,955.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ELsm TERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis City and State of hiissouri have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Electric Oven, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an electric oven and has for its principal object the production of an oven which may be electrically heated and is constructed so as to retain the heat for a comnaratively great length of time and which is also constructed so that same may be cooled by means of ice or other suitable means and will prevent the entrance of heat into the interior thereof.
A further object of the invention is to generally improve upon devices of this nature by providing a construction which will be extremely simple durable, and inexpensive and one which is efiicient and reliable in operation, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Vith these and numerous other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device,
Figure 2 is an enlarged horizontal frag mentary section taken through the side walls,
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the device with the door thereof removed, and
Figure 4 is an end elevation of the device showing same partly in section.
By referring to the accompanying drawingby numerals it will be seen that 1 designates the leg upon which is mounted the box 2 which consists of four walls for the side enclosure and a top and bottom wall. The front wall is provided with an opening 3 having the knuckle 4 adjacent the bottom edge thereof which are provided with perforations for registering with the perforations in the knuckle 5 provided on the door 6 so that a rod may be run therethrough for hingedly connecting the door to the box 2.
The top and side walls are constructed so as to consist of the sheet iron 7 which is provided upon the exterior and next to this sheet iron is a cork lining 8. Block asbestos 9 is situated alongside of the cork 8 and the three ply asbestos 10 is situated alongside of the block asbestos 9. Lpon the interior of the three ply asbestos 10 I have provided the corrugated copper-sheeting 11. By this construction it will be seen that the heat will be prevented from escaping from the box 2 and also from entering thereinto. The door 6 is constructed on the exterior of the sheet iron 1 and has the asbestos iining 13 and upon the interior of the box I have provided the corrugated copper sheet ing Openings 15 are provided in the door for receiving the transparent glass sheets 16 so as to provide a space therebetween. In order to keep this door 6 closed I have provided a latch 17 of any preferred construction so as to engage the interior of the top of the front wall as is clearly Sll0\'l1 in Figure a of the drawing. The bottom of the box is formed of fiat sheet copper and is provided at one end with the drain 18. By referring especially to Figure 3 of the drawing it will be seen that electrical heating elements 19 are situated at each end of the box 2 and have provided thereover the reflectors 20 which are disposed at an angle to the heating elements 19so as to reflect the heat towards the center of the box 2.
Of course suitable shelving and like supports may be located in the interior of the box as may be desired and in order that there may be proper ventilation when same is necessary I have provided the vent 21 having the closure 22 In order that the device may be carried from place to place I have provided the handles 23 adjacent the top edges of the box 2. The element 2% representsan electrical connection for transmitting the electricity to the heating el ments 19 which may be of any preferred construction.
From the foregoing description. taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood without a more extended explanation. As numerous changes in form, proportion. and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention. I do not wish to be limited to the construction herein shown and described other than is clalmed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is l. A device of the class described provided with top and side walls constructed of 5 sheet metal, sheet cork, block asbestos, three ply asbestos, and'corrugated copper sheeting.
2. A device of the class described com- IISIIIO a wall constructlon consistln of a sheet of metal, a sheet of cork, a sheet of block asbestos, a'sheet of three ply asbestos, and a sheet of corrugated copper sheeting arranged in the manner specified.
In testimony whereof I afiij; my signature in presence of two witnesses.
