To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM C. SPIVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbiana, in the county of Shelby and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Cultivators and Harrows, of which-the following is a specification.
This invention relates to harrows and more particularly to that class ofcombined disk cultivators and spring teeth harrows whereby the land may be cultivated and harrowed during a single operation.
One of the objects of my invention is directed to a harrow of the above class wherein a plurality of disks and spring teeth are mounted on a flexible, sectional frame whereby land may be cultivated and harrowed during a single operation.
Another object of my invention resides in the construction of a sectional harrow of the above class including freely rotatable disks and spring teeth whereby the earth working elements will not be broken when engaged by an obstruction.
With these objects in view and others which will be manifest and suggested as the nature and purpose of my invention are revealed in the following specification and:
drawing wherein I have shown a practical, yet preferred embodiment thereof.

Fig. 3 is a transverse view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Similar numerals on the drawing referring to like and corresponding parts in the specification, numerals 1 and 2 represent the front and rear sections of my harrow which comprise two substantially rectangular frames having transverse beams 3, 4, and 5, 6 respectively to which the cultivator and harrow elements subsequently to be. described are attached. Longitudinal, metallic connecting straps 7, 8 at each side of the frames are hinged together as at 9, 10 and fastened to the top of the respective beams by suitable securing bolts 11.
Additional metallic connecting straps 12, 13 secured to the beams of the rear frame by fastening elements 14, 15 and similar straps 16, 17 secured to the beams of the front frame by fastening elements 18, 19 also con stitute a support for a seat 20, positioned between the front and rear frames 1, 2. The forward terminals of the straps 16, 17 are partly cut away and formed into hook receiving members 38 for a transverse draft rod 4.0, and fastening nuts 41.
A forwardly extending, flat, metallic yoke member 42 having hooked members 453 freely embracing the draft rod 40 permitting free vertical movement of the yoke with respect to the front frame is provided with a transverse brace 44: secured to the opposite sides 46 of the yoke. Apertures 4:5 forms-o in the yoke are adapted to receive a removable securing element 46 which secures the forwardly extending draft beam 47, also suitably fastened to the transverse brace 44.
t will be readily apparent that as the machine travels over the ground and the earth is thrown to each side of the disk cultivators the spring teeth will simultaneously harrow the ground thereby dispensing with ground the necessity of travelling over the ground a second time. Since the frames are hinged to each other, and the seat hingedly supported between the two frames, provision is thereby made to accommodate the flexing or vertical movement of the front and rear frames with respect to each other when the same pass over uneven and irregular ground. The forward draft device is also freely mounted with respect to the front frame to allow for the same vertical movement and thereby take up any unnecessary strain from. the draft animals when the machine is working. The simple and convenient mounting of the disk cultivators and the spring'teeth permit the same to be easily removed when desired and: it will be seen that both the cultivation and harrowing of the ground is performed during one operation thereby saving considerable time and labor.
In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated my invention embodled 1n one form by way of example, and which in practice has been found to be highly satisfactory in obtaining the desired results. It will be obvious, however that other embodiments may be adopted, and that various changes in the details of construction may be resorted to by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is furthermore understood that the invention is not necessarily limited or restricted to the precise elements shown except in so far as such limitations are specified in the subject matter being claimed.
What I claim is:
1. Ina combined disk cultivator and harrow, comprising front and rear hingedly secured frames, a plurality of cultivators pivotally supported by each of said frames anda plurality of harro-w elements pivotally.

2. In a combined disk cultivator and harrow, comprising front and rear hingedly secured, rectangular frames, a plurality of equally spaced freely rotatable cultivators pivotally supported by each of said frames, and freely rotatable harrow elements pivotally supported by the rear frame and in direct alignment with the said cultivators, and draft means hingedly secured to the front frame.
3. In a combined disk cultivator and harrow, comprising front and rear hingedly secured frames, a plurality of freely for tatable equally spaced cultivators pivotally supported by each of said frames, a plu-. rality of equally spaced, freely rotatable harrow' elements pivotally supported by the rear frame, angularly extending; braces pivotally secured to the front and rear frames for supporting a seat between the said frame and a draft means hingedly secured to the front frame.
