`provement in Ginger-Ale Settlers, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, refer` ence being had to the accompanying Adrawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for settling ginger-ale and similar carbonated fluids, and has for its Object an improved device of this character adapted to reduce to the minimum the more or less inevitable foaming of the iiuid when it has .reached the stage of manufacturel where the cooling process is to begin, preparatory to use.

A indicates an outer shell or drum, preferably composed `of two metallic enclosing walls, spaced from one another by filling of non-conducting material, and B represents the inner drum, which is of so much smaller diameter than the outer drum that there is left sulicient space between them for the cooling coils C, and, if desired, an ice packing. The inlet or supply pipe F, controlled by the valve G, enters from without through the walls of the two drums, and thenfturns right angular-ly upward. Supported on the collar J, which engages `about the upturned pipe, isl the lower or finer perforated screen H, which extends completely across the lower portion of the inner drum B. The upper kportion of the pipe F is perforated as at'L,
so that the fluid supplied therethrough may be laterally projected into, that portion of the drum B. immediately about the lower screen H. The upper end of the pipe F is closed by the cap M, which is preferably of a mushroom form, so as to aid in affecting the lateral projection of lthe fluid through d the holes L and well to the sidezportions of the drum B before it can rise toward and through the upper and more coarsely perforated plate K, which rests on the top of the cap N. From the space between the bottom of the drum B and the lower plate H, leads the withdrawal pipe M, suitably controlled, as by the faucet P. From the lower portion of the outer drum A leads the sedi i ment vent Q.
In operation, the freshly manufactured carbonated fluid is admitted through the pipe F and emerges with considerable foaming effect through the holes L in the top end of the pipe, and quite soon the foamingportion rises through the larger perforations in the upper plate K, though the passage of even the foaming portion of the fluidA therethrough tends to materially reduce that characteristic, and an appreciable quantity of the fluid, now comparatively cleared of foam, falls back through the holes in plate v K and around the edges into the space between the platesA K and H and thence through the holes in the lower plate H, through which as well there falls at the outset an appreciable quantity of fluid that is free from foam. This is withdrawn through the outlet pipe M. The cooling of the primarily foaming fluid, which at the same time tends to decrease with the drop of temperature, is effected through the medium of the coils C, which may be augmentedit desired by ice packed thereabout in the space between the drums A and B.
