yVENTOR.
ATTORNEY HENRY SAU'R, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ABDOMINAL APPLIANCE.
Application filed February 26, 1921.
To all whom 2'6 may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY SAUR, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have 111- vented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Appliances, of which the following is a true and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof.
My invention relates to an abdominal ap pliance designed especially for use in connection with cases of ptosis of the stomach and transverse colon and the object of it is to provide a support for these organs which can be easily adjusted and applied so as to hold them in normal and proper position.
The nature of my improvement will be best understood as described in connection with the drawings in which Figure l is a perspective View of the appliance, and
Figure 2 a side elevation thereof.
A and A are two bars or plates secured together by means of a hinged beam B and formed to fit against the back of the wearer of the appliance. C and C are springs secured to the plates or bars A and A and curved as indicated, that is, each having an outward curve D and a forward curve D by which the spring is brought forward around the waist of the wearer and from which the springs curve forwardly and inwardly as indicated at D The ends of the springs are bent inwardly and upwardly into hooks as indicated at D these hooks terminating in parallel pins D D E is a pad back preferably made of metal and supporting a pad indicated at E which is preferably formed to fit against and afford the necessary support to the stomach and colon. F is a metal plate secured to the back of the pad E having, as shown, four sockets F, F F and F 4 fittedto receive the pins D D, at the ends of the springs. Gis a belt secured to the plates A and A and Specification of Letters Patent.
I claim as new and Patented J an. 3, 1922..
Serial No. 447,926.
provided, as shown, with perforations in the ends of the belt sections by which it can be secured to a stud or button H.
In applying my device the stomach should be massaged and the organs brought to proper position. The abdominal pad is then applied and the pad holding device is applied to the back of the patient and the spring arms brought together around the waist and the abdomen and then the pins D", D*, forced upward into the sockets in the plate F.
While, of course, the abdominal pad can be secured to the lower ends of the spring arms in various ways the construction shown is especially well adapted for this purpose, particularly when the upwardly turned end of the U pins D are made bendable so that they can be annularly adjusted so as to adjust the angular position of the pad.
Having now described my patent, what desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: Y
1. The abdominal appliance comprising supporting plates hinged together and adapted to fit against the back springs, one
secured to each plate and curved to extend forward around the waist and downward over the abdomen, said springs having their ends bent into hook form with upwardly extending ends and a pad adapted to be dee tachably secured to the upwardly extending ends of the springs.
2. The abdominal appliance comprising supporting plates hinged together and adapted to fit against the back springs, one secured to each plate and curved to extend forward around the waist and downward over the abdomen, said springs having their ends bent into hook form with upwardly extending bendable ends and a pad adapted to be detachably secured to the upwardly extending ends of the springs.
HENRY SAUR.
