VBe it known that we, CHARLESV S. SPrrznR and JOHN GLOUB, both Vcitizens of the United States, and residents of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois; have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets for Phonographs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. y

The invention relates to cabinets f for phonographs. One offits objects is-to provide improved mechanism vior 'holding record-disks so they can be conveniently manipulated intoand out oithecase..` Another object ot the inventionis to provide means for exhibiting a placard inconnection with the withdrawal of arecord from the cabinet,

Cross bars 14 are rigidly secured: in the lower portion of theV cabinet'and a series of longitudinally .extendingv i channeled bars 15 are secured on said cross-bars. A, slide 16 is fitted in each Vor the channeled bars 15 and has secured thereto a pair of plates 17 Y which are adaptedto hold between thema record-disk 1S. VThe plates 17 are cut awa-y, as at 19,so that a portion of the record-disk will be accessible to be gripped in removing or replacing it in the holder. whereby the slide may be shifted into and out of the cabinet. The lowei` portion of the cabinet is provided -with hinged doors 21l to provide access to that portion of the chamber in the cabinetwhich contains the record* holders,` it beingv understood that the slides i 16 are movable longitudinally, so that' the record disks and their holders may be withdrawn from the cabinet, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1.

The invention contemplates exhibiting a placard containing the words of aV song or an'advertisement or a picture or any other matter which it might be desirable to eX- hibit while the records arebeing reproduced. For this purpose, a series of rectangular frames 22 normally rest on a horizontal bracket 23, which is fixed in the case. Each of Vthese frames is provided withl four upwardly extending holders each adapted to containa transparent placard 25, there being one placard for each of the :tour sides of the cabinet.`v That portion of'the cabinet which is above'the holders, while they are in their lowered or normal positions, is provided with windows26, through'whichfthe placards will be visible whenv they are raised. The placards 25 are preferably of translucent material, such as celluloid, and an incandescent lamp 27 is supported from the botered. when the slide is pushed back into the cabinet. These connections, 4between the frames and slides respectively, each comprise a stud 30, projecting from one side of the slide 16, through a slot'31 in guide-bar 15and extending into a slot 32 ina pivoted arm 33, an arm 34 connected to move rigidly with arm 33, a link 35 pivoted to the outer end of arm 34 and` pivoted to a lever V36, `which is cross-connected to correspondingly `shift a companion arm 37, and vertical links 38 between the ends oi'

36 and 37 of the placard shift-V ing connections consists of a shaft '42 to which said arms are rigidly secured and which is pivotally held in bearings 43 which are secured in the cabinet. Each cross-connection forl the remaining arms consists of a sleeve 44, the sleeves for the connections respectively being mounted one upon the other, as shown in Fig. 6.

A cabinet is provided with a shoe 50 adapted to bear on the floorto frictionally hold the cabinet against lateral movement, the cabinet being usually mounted on casters, so that it may be easily moved from place to place. Shoe 50 is provided with a stem 51 which is slidable in a socket 52 secured to the bottom of the cabinet and is pressed against the floor by a spring 53. The cabinet is usually mounted upon casters 54 and by providing the friction shoe 50, the cabinet will be held against lateral displacement with suihcient force to prevent displacement of the cabinet when the record- Aholders are operated. A drawer 55 is provided adjacent the bottom of the cabinet for lconvenience in retaining needles"A or other parts.

When it is desired to place one of the records in the cabinet, the slide 16 for the record-holder, in which the record is held, will be withdrawn from the cabinet. W hen this is done, the slide Will operate through one of its connections, consisting of stud 30,

36, 37 and links 38, frame 22, holders 24 and placards 25 carried thereby, to raise the placards into position for exposure through windows 26 and illumination by lamp 27. The upper ends of the holders 24 are open, so that placards 25 may be readily replaced and removed, so that placards which have relation -to different records may be placed in the placard holders when the records in the holders 17 are changed. While a given record is being played, the placards containing matter descriptive or illustrative of the record may thus be displayed. For example, for educational purposes, the notes or words of a song may be Vdisplayed while the record is being played. After the record has been played, it will be replaced in its holder and, when the holder and record are pushed back into the cabinet, the connections aforesaid will lower the placards when their display will be discontinued.

3. The combination with a phonograph of a series of record-disk holders movably mounted in the cabinet, the latter being provided with display-openings or windows, a

series of frames provided with means forV holding cards to be exhibitedY and'movable into position for display through the openings, and operative connections between the holders and the frames.

4. The combination with a phonograph-V cabinet of a series of record disk holders movably mounted in the cabinet, the latter being provided with display-openings or windows, a series of'frames, each provided with a series oficard-holders movable into position to display the cards through the openings, and operative Vconnections between the holders and the frames. i

5. The combination with a phonographcabinet of a series of record disk holders movably mounted in the cabinet, the latter being provided with display-openings 'or windows, a series of vertically slidable frames provided with card-holders movable into position to display the cards through the openings, andl operative connections between the holders and the frames, whereby the frames will be shifted responsively to shift of the disk-holders.

The combination with a phonograph cabinet of a series of slides mounted in the cabinet, disk-holders mounted on the slides, exhibiting devices individually connected to the holdersrespectively and operative connections between the slides and said devices whereby the slides will shift the exhibiting devices into and out of operative position.

7. The combination with a phonograph cabinet of a series of'slides mounted in the cabinet, individual disk-holders mounted on the slides, slidable frames carrying card-holders individually connected to the holders respectively, and operative connections be the slides will shift the card-holders into and out of operative position.

8. The combination with a phonograph cabinet of a series of slides mounted in the cabinet, individual disk-holders mounted on the slides, exhibiting devices individually connected to the holders respectively and operative connections between the slides and 1 Said devices whereby the slides will shift the exhibiting devices into and out of operative position, said connections comprising arms and levers between the slides and said devices.

9. The combination with a phonograph cabinet of a seriesof slides mounted in the cabinet, individual disk-holders mounted on the slides, exhibiting devices individually connected to the holders respectvely and operative connections between the slides and said devices whereby the slides will shift the exhibiting devices into and out of operative position, said connections comprising v concentrically mounted arms and levers betweenV the slides and said devices.

10. The combination with a phonograph cabinet of a series of slides mounted in the cabinet, individual disk-holders mounted on the slides, exhibiting devices individually connected to the holders respectively and operative connections between the slides and said devices whereby the slides will shift the exhibiting devices into and out of operative position, said connections comprising concentrically mounted arms and concentrically mounted levers between the slides and said devices.
