Specification of LettersiPiaitent; 1922,
Application filed December 14, 1920. Serial No. 430,650.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED J. Mussnn, residing at Indiana, in the county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Block Forms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to moulds and has for an object the provision of a mould for -making concrete building blocks, bricks and the like.
Another object is the provision of a block mould which is formed of a number of units and which is so constructed that the number may be varied as desired.
Another object is the provision of a mould which may be easily and quickly assembled for use, or disassembled for the removal of the moulded product.
A further object is the provision of a block mould which is of simple and durable construction and which may be stored in a relatively small space when not in use.
With the above and other objects-in view,
the invention further includes the followstops or pillars 20 secured to the platform 10.
ing novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of a mould showing a number of assembled units.
Figure 2 is an end view of the same.
Figure 8 is an enlarged plan showing a fragmentary portion of the mould.
Figure d is an enlarged transverse sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary ,elevation of a portion of one of the metallic strips which form the sides of the mould.
Figure 6 is a detail perspective view of one of the end blocks.
Referring in detail to the drawings, like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In carrying out the invention, the mould is preferably set up upon a smooth base,
herein shown as a platform 10, which platform may be equipped with a gauge strip 11 for use in lining up the mould units.
These mould units include metallic strips or plates 12, whose ends abut the gauge strip 11. The strips or plates 12 are spaced apart by end blocks 13, the latter being preferably constructed of wood and arranged so as to provide elongated rectangular chambers 14 within which the blocks or bricks are formed.
The plates 12 and blocks 13 are connected to one another through the medium of bolts 15 and nuts 16, the said bolts being passed through spaced openings 17 provided in the strips or plates 12 and having a head 18 which extends from one face of the said strips or plates 12. The nut 16 is positioned against the opposite face of the. plate or strip 12 so that a projection is provided for each face of the plates or strips, which, in effect forms a bower. are, as before stated, arranged in spaced relation and are preferably disposed in horizontal pairs and are adapted to enter sockets 19 formed in the opposite ends of the end blocks 13, these sockets being properly spaced for this purpose. The mould units may thus be assembled with the ends of the plates or strips 12 abutting the gauge strip 11 and the outer face of the outermost plate or strip resting against vertically arranged The plate or strip at theopposite end of the mould may be likewise secured.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings, that the invention provides an exceedingly simple and durable mould which may The nuts and bolts be arranged in the number of units desired for the moulding of blocks or bricks which may be readily disassembled for storage or shipment.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right in herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A mould comprising a plurality of vertically disposed longitudinal strips spaced to provide the side walls of separate mould chambers, end walls removably located be tween the strips, means detachably connecting the strips and end walls and means for holding the outermost strips in position.
2. A mould comprising a plurality of vertically disposed longitudinal strips spaced to provide the side walls of separate mould chambers, end walls removably located between the strips, projections Carried by the strips for engagement with sockets formed inthefledges of the end Walls and means for holding the outermost strips'inposition.
strips tending thiough openings and 10 formedin thestrips, nutslocated upon the bolts upon the sideof the stripslopposit' the i bolt headsto define projections-for removable engagement in spaced "sockets formed'in the edges ,of theend Walls and means for 1 holding the outermost strips in position.
