Be it known that I, ALLEN A. VAN Ons- DALE, a citizen ofthe Unit-ed States, residing at Philadelphia,v in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have in-l Y type or form of lubricator which is dependent upon the vibrations of the machine or engine to which it is applied for feeding the lubricant to the desired'partf or parts; in other words, my invention has reference more specifically to `lubricators the feed f whereof is incident to the surrounding vibratory conditions whereby Van automatic feed consonant with the degree of vibration results.
YThe main object of my present invention is to provide a lubricator ofthe nature referred to which is more applicable for industrial purposes, that is Vt0 say which is usable wherever it is essential that moving parts should be kept evenly lubricated.
Another object of this invention is to provide a vibratory feed lubricator the feed whereof can be regulated to meet different conditions, said regulation being effected by means external t0 the lubricator.
A further object resultant to my present invention is the provision of means whereby the vibratory feed lubricator can be quickly replenished with lubricant without the disconnect-ion of any of the parts.
A still further object of my invention is 'the provision of avibratory feed lubricator characterized by means for trapping any foreign matter which may'accidentally become associated in the lubricant whereby the feed is rendered absolutely smooth and free from any tendency t0 clogging or flooding. With the foregoing and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds lmy present invention consists essentially in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangements of parts -hereinafter fully described and more specifically defined by the appended claims.

Referring more particularly to the views the numeral 10 designates the base or lower part of my improved lubricator which'is preferably of dished formation in cross section, and it is provided at` its upper part with a vertically directed rim 11 and a circumscribing flange `12 for the purposes later on to be explained. Formed integral with the said lower part 10 is an axial ex-V tension or cylindrical portion 13 terminating inA an externally threaded nipple 14; by means of which the lubricator can be connected in position or removed when desired. Formed at diametrically opposed points in the cylindrical portion 13 are sight open ings 15 and fitting snugly in said cylindrical portion is a shortl length of glass tube 16 which seats atits lower and upper ends between washersflrn of appropriate material, and .in vorder to provide anetfective means for locking the glass tube 16V in place l preferably employ a funnel-shaped nipple 18 which isscrew-threaded at 19 into the base orlower part whereby a liquid-proof joint is insured as and between the glass tube 16 andthe cylindrical portion 13. It is also to'be especially noted that a fundamental feature incident to the employment of the` funnel-shaped nipple 18 is that it is centrally apertured at 2O so that the lubricant is fed axially central to the discharge orifice or passage 21 in the 'threaded nipple 14: while at the same time thesaid lubricant cannot percolate around and becloud the glass registering with the sight openings 15. This latter feature I deem of very greatimportance as it makes provision for the accurate adjustment of the feed at all` times, but l wish it clearly and em-` phatically understood that it is 1n no sense' to be construed as obligatory to provide this sight-feed feature of my invention, and it is' only here. described as being a part f the `particular embodiment shown in the draw- .,jecting lugs or projections 22 which are notched out at 23 to seat aconcavo-convex or dished diaphragm 24 which when in place providesa series of openings between the peripheralV edge thereof and the inner -wall of the art intervening the said lugs or projections for the purpose later -on set forth; and it is also tobenoted that this concavo-convex or dished diaphragm 24 is mounted in spaced relation relative to the inner lower surface or kwall of the base part 10.
vFrictionally or otherwise seated in the upper portion of the base 10 and within the aforesaid vertically directed rim 11 is a diaphragm which is provided with an axially central depending and internally threaded flange 26, said diaphragm 25 also constituting the base or bottom for anV appropriate cylindric reservoir lmember 27 which seats on a washer 28, and it is to be remarked that while I have shown this reservoir member 27 as made of glass, it will beapparent that it may be made of any other translucent material, or it may be formed integrally with the diaphragm 25 and therefore not of a transparent nature. The cover proper 29 is preferably formed with a depending lip 30 which seats snugly upon the upper end of the reservoir 27, a washer 31 being interposed to insure an air and dust-proof joint and in order to clamp the parts 10` 27` and 29, firmly together, I employ a plurality of bolts 32 which are passed through holes in the fiange 33 of the cover' 29 and threaded into the aforementioned circ-umscribing flange 12 of the base 10, lock-nuts 34 being then applied and thereby insuring an absolutely dust and moisture-proof structure.
Centrally ofith'e'cover 29 is a depending boss or flanged part 35 which is bored at 36 for the passage of a tube 37 having apertures or holes 38 therein, and said tube 37, it will be noted is formed at its upper end with a fiange V39` and at its lower part .it is externally threaded at 40 for engagement in the above referred to internallv threadedv flange 26. Adjustably threaded into the lower end of the tube 37 is a valve seat memberf45 formed to coperate with an upwardly seating valve 46 integral with or adjustably mounted on the lower end of a. Valve stem or rod 47, the upper end whereof is screw threaded into a cap 4.8 provided with anv annular depending liange 49 arranged to fit snugly over the upstanding flange or lextension 41 on,the aforemen-Y tioned head-piece or manipulating member This cap 4S is also formed with an inner concentric depending tubular part 50 having an vaperture 51 in one sidethereof and it is to be noted that this latter part 50 is made a friction fit for the extension 41 and upper end of the' tube when the parts are in closed position as shown in Fig. 1. It is also to be particularly noted that the tubular part 50 is limited in its outward .movement by the valve 46 seating upwardly against the valve seat member 45 as shown in Fig. 2, whereupon the aperture 52 is brought into exposed position above the eX- tension` 41 when lubricant can be injected therethrough to replenish the reservoir 27 when empty as hereafterexplained.
The assembly and operation of my improved lubricator are briefly as follows The glass tube 16 is fitted into the cylindrical portion 13 of the base 10 and firmly seated liquid and dustproof by the funnel-shaped nipple 18, whereupon the concavo-convex diaphragm 24 is sprung into connection with the notched out parts 23 of the radial lugs or projections 22. The diaphragm 25 is next seated andthe reservoir member 27 and cap 29 assembled as shown, whereupon the bolts A32 are fitted to clamp said partsv to the base or lower part:-

Finally it will be readily recognized that a lubricator constructed and adapted for operation as set forth will possess numerous other advantages incident to its novel formation, and that it may be employed in any lsituation where there is sufficient vibration to create a splash of the lubricant over the upper peripheral edge of the concave- Vconvex dished diaphragm 24, and while l have described and illustrated one practical embodiment of my invention it is to be clearly understood that l do not limit myself to the precise details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts disclosed, as various changes in the shape, arrangement and manner of manipulating them can be easily evolved without departfrom the spirit and scope thereof, and it is intended hereby to ,include all such reasonable modifications as may fairly be construed as falling within the scope and ambit of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v l. A vibratoryvfeed lubricator comprising a basal portion having an outlet therefrom, a. funnel shaped nipple seated over said outlet., a dished diaphragm mounted in spaced relation within said basal portion, a lubri-Y cant reservoir mounted on and adapted for clamping engagement to said basal portion, a perforate tubeaxially longitudinal of the reservoir and having threaded connection in the lower end thereof, means for manipulating said perforateptube whereby its lower end maybe regulated relative to thedished diaphragm, and valve including telescopic means movable longitudinall of the aforesaid perforate'tube whereby the lubricator may be iilled when necessary'.
2, A vibratory feed lubricator comprising a basal portion having an outlet therefrom, a funnel shaped nipple seated over said outlet, a dished diaphragm mounted in spaced relation within said basal portion, a lubricant reservoir including a cylindric body portion, a base having an internally threaded extension and a centrally apertured cover, means' for clamping said body, base and cover firmly together, a perforate tube for passage longitudinally through the apertured cover and engagement in the aforesaid threaded extension, means for manipulating said perfcrate tube whereby its lower end maybe regulated relativeto the (lished diaphragm, a valve seat in said perforate tube, and an upwardly seating valve and associated telescopic member movable longitudinally within the perforate tube whereby the lubricator may be filled when necessary.

A vibratory feed lubricator comprising a basal portion having an outlet therefrom, a funnel shaped nipple seated over said outlet, a dished diaphragm mounted in spaced relation within said basal portion, a lubricant reservoir including a cylindric body portionl` a base having an internally threaded extension and a centrally apertured cover, means vfor clamping said body, base and cover firmly together, a perforate tube for passage longitudinally through the apertured cover and engagement in the aforesaid threaded extension, an extension on the upper end of said perforate tube having a graduated flange for manipulation relative to a zero mark on the reservoir cover whereby the lowerY end of said perforate tube may 'be regulated relative to the dished diaphragm, an adjustable valve seat threaded into the perforate tube, and an upwardly seating valve and associated telescopic member movable longitudinally within the perforate tube whereby the lubric'atoi may bev filled when necessary.

A vibratory feed lubricator comprising a basal portion having an outlet therefrom, a funnel shaped nipple seated over said outlet, a dished diaphragm mounted in spaced relation within said basal portion, a lubricant reservoir includinga cylindric body portion, a base having an internally threaded extension and a centrally apertured cover, means for clamping said body, base and cover, firmly together, a perforate tube for passage longitudinally through the apertured cover v and engagement in t ie aforesaid threaded extension, an extension on the upper end 0f said perforate tube having a graduated flange for manipulation relative to a Zero mark on the reservoir Vcover whereby the lower end of said perforate tube may be regulated relative to the dished diaphragm, an vadjustable valve seat threaded into the perforate tube, a cap for said extension having an inner concentric apertured tubular part for telescopic engagement in the upper end of the aforesaid perforate tube, and a valve stem axially depending from said -cap provided with an upwardly seating valve at its free'end, said valve and apertured tubular part being adapted when extended relative to the perforate tube to respectively shut off communication between the reservoir and the dished diaphragm and open the former.

In a vibratory feed lubricator comprising a basal portion having an outlet therefrom, a funnel shaped nipple seated over said outlet, a dished diaphragm mounted in spaced relation within the basal portion, and a lubricant reservoir mounted on and adapted for clamping en agement thereto, the combination of a per orate tube for passage longitudinally through the reservoir and threaded engagement in the base thereof, an extension on the upper end of said perforate tube having a graduated fiange for manipulation relative to a zero mark on the aforesaid reservoir whereby the lower end of said perforate tube may be regulated relative to the dished diaphragm, and means movable relative to and longitudinally of the perforate tube whereby the lubricator may be filled when necessary.

In a vibratory feed lubricator comprising a basal portion having an outlet therefrom, a funnel shaped nipple seated over said outlet, a dished diaphragm mounted in spaced relation within said basal portion, a lubricant reservoir mounted on and adapted for clampin engagement thereto, a perforate tube axially longitudinal of the'reservoir and having threaded connection'in its lower end and means for manipulating said perforate tube whereby its lower end may be moved toward or away from the dished diaphragm, the combination of a cap for seating on the reservoir said vcap having an inner concentric apertured tubular partfor telescopic engagement in the upper end of the aforesaidperforate tube, and aV valve stem axially depending from said cap, provided with an upwardly seating valve at its free end, said valve and apertured tubular part being adapted when extended relative 130 Y Leonesa to the perorate tube to close communication between the reservoir and dished diaphragm and open said reservoir for iilling purposes.

In a vibratory feed lubricator the combination of a basal portion having an outlet therefrom, a funnel shaped nipple seated over said outlet, a dished diaphragm mounted in spaced relation within said basal por tion, a lubricant reservoir mounted on and adapted for clamping engagement to said basal portion, a perforate tube axially longitudinal of thereservoir and having threaded connection in the lower end thereof, the
perforations in said tube creating a trap for preventing solid matter passing from said reservoir to the part to be lubricated, means for manipulating said perforate tube whereby its lower end may be regulated relative to the dished diaphragm, and an upwardly seating valve and connected telescopic member movable longitudinally within the perorate tube to open an aperture in said tele scopi@ member whereby the lubricator may be filled when necessar In testimony whereot I affix my signature.
