THREAD AND IMPLEMENT HOLDER.
racism.
Specification of Letters Patent.
hatented Dec. a, 1921.
Application filed December 16,1919, Serial No. 345,291. Renewed July 15, QSerial No. 485,037.
To. (4% whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnoncn M. MYnRs, J r., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Charleston, in the county of Charleston and State of South Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Thread and Implement Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to the .art of crocheting or knitting, and more particularly to a box for holding the crochet thread.
An object of the invention is to provide a container for holding balls of crochet thread, or spools. of crochet thread, which will feed the thread out asused to prevent it from becoming tangled or knotted during crocheting, knitting, or sewing operations. p 7
At times great inconvenience occurs to ladies and others crocheting and doing needle work because of the thread becoming knotted, and, further, because the crochet ball may fall from the operators lap on the floor and become dirty or entangled with other sewing work, thus causing considerable inconvenience in the carrying out ofthis work.
It is fitting, therefore, that an object of my invention is to provide a crochet-ball or other containing box which will obviate such disadvantages and inconveniences, and, further, which will provide adequate means for holding one or more balls of crochet thread or spools of thread to keep the thread clean,'
smooth and straight, free'from tangles and ready at all times for crocheting, knitting and sewing work.
It is a further purpose ofthis invention to provide a simplified form of attachment means for fastening the device to ones clothing, so that the thread is always available and close to the work done.
Likewise, a purpose of my invention, and one of the important features thereof, re-
sides in'th'e provision of a needle-holdingmeans for securing a needleto the box to prevent its loss when not in use.
With the above principal objects and others in view, the invention has relation to a thread container and crochet-needle holder 1 .as set forth inthe appended claims, de-
scribed in the following specification, and
illustrated in the accompanying drawings, I
clamps. 16 and 17 by pushing the small end of the needle wherein:
Figural illustrates an elevation of the thread container. attached to the operators Fig. 3 illustrates a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
VA thread-holding box constructed in accordance with my plan and conception embodies a container 4 constructed of any suitv able material, such as celluloid or fiber, and
formed in any appropriate shape. It is practical to build the container d in cylindrical form with one end closed and the cap 5 which slips over the open end of the container 1, and the cover cap has hooks v6 which engage pins 7 fixedto the container 4:. By subjecting the cover cap 5 to slight rotation the hooks 6 will disengage the pin-7 other end open. There is provided a cover and the covenmay be removed "for with drawing the ball of thread or for reinserting another ball of thread. The container 4 is provided with an opening 8 of any appropriate form, gated slot shown in the drawings.- The ball of thread 9 carriedin the container 4: is unwound to expose one end of its thread 10- for use, and the thread may be withdrawn from the box at intervals 'TOI carrying on the needle work. 5 1 i i A number of fastenereyes 14: are secured to the thread container 4, and the fastener eyes provide securing means for attaching a carrier bail 15. The lower ends of the carrier bail are passed through the fastener eyes andthen bent to form loops or eyes 16 and the free ends bent to form with the members of the bail clamps 17. The upper portion of the bail 15 is shaped to form a clasp 18.; The clasp 18 is constructed .by'
there being an elon-f bending thebail 15 back on itself until the two clasp members 18 range and bind one parallel on the other.
The carrier ball 15 is constructed of appropriate spring material which provides flexibility in theclasp 18 and also in the two clamps 16 and 17. The device is hooked grasp the cloth between the two clasp parts 18, as shown in'Fig. 1.
The crochet needle 20' is inserted in the forward through the loop gig r 1,401,811
may be quickly clasped to ones dress or re moved therefrom without damage to the dress. When crocheting with the use of this fixture, the crocheting operation may he temporarily stopped at any time for performing other duties and the device left suspended on ones clothing, and there is no inconvenience experienced in wearing thecrochet box for it is compact, small, light in weight, and an article of extended value and household use fulness. s
Having thus described my invention What I desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1, An appliance or the character specified, comprising a thread container provided in a .side with a thread opening, a cover removably fitted to one end of the container, and a suspending bail attached to the container and provided with a centrally disposed suspending clasp and terminal eyes and clamps, the eyes serving as the connecting means between the bail and container and the clamps as holding means for a crochet needle.
2. An appliance or the character specified, comprising a thread container and a suspending bail thereforvprovided with. terminal eyes and clamps serving as connecting means'between the bail and container, and as holding means for a crochet needle.
3. An appliance of the character specified, comprising a thread container and a sus pending bail therefor having its terminal portions bent to provide container connecting elements means.
4. An appliance of the character specified, comprising a thread container, and a suspending bail therefor having its middle portion of loop form and its terminal portions consisting of attaching eyes and needle holding clamps.
5. An appliance of the character specified, comprising a thread container provided in a side with a thread slot, a cover, detachable securing means between the cover and the container, a hail having a centrally disposed clasp and terminal eyes and needle holding clamps, and eyes on a sideof the container engaging the eyes of the bail.
