To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD R. BLoss, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Parkersbnrg, in the county of Wood and State of 'West Vir 'nia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Derrick-Fittings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to derrick fittings, and it comprises a substantially cylindrical body portion adaptedto receive an upper and lower le section, means for securm .the' horizonta girthsto said fitting, an means for securing the diagonal braces thereto, said means comprising eccentric blocks having openings therein for the re-' ception of the ends of the braces whereby the braces may be tightened by the operation-of said eccentrics.
In the construction and use of derrick fittings, there are certain essentials which must be considered in order to produce a fitting that will meet with the approval of the trade.
A derrick fitting must be simple to erect and it must be so arranged that the rigbuilder is not depended upon to et the It is, therefore, a visable that the use of adjustable turn buckles and similar structures be eliminated and that the various parts of'the derrick be cut to the proper length with the holes properly laced to insure a etrical structure. here the adjustment of the parts is left to the rig builder, it frequently happens that the derrick is unsymmetrical when assembled and therefore weak.
It is also'desirable to provide a derrick fitting which permits speed in erecting and disassembling. The use of bolts passing through the leg sections, girths or braces which have to be entirely removed to disassemble the derrick, is objectionable because of the time consumed in such operation.
In the present invention, I have provided a derrick fitting wherein the ran e of adjustment of the diagonal braces 1s limitedand wherein all parts may be cut the proper size and openings proper y placed to insure a symmetrical construction when the derrick is assembled. v

received in sockets and no bolts whatever are used. In other forms of the invention, wherein bolts and nuts are employed, they are so arranged that the derrick may be disassembled by merely loosening the nuts.

Referring to Figs. l-to 4 of the drawings, the reference numeral 1 desi ates the body portion of the fitting which is adapted to receive u per and lower leg sections 2 and'3. As 3 own, the cylindrical section 1 is provided w1th a longitudinal slit and pairs of ears 4 and 5 are arranged on each side of the opening. These ears are provided with almed openings adapted to receive a bolt 6 to permit tightenin and loosening of the body portion when the leg sections are being put in position or removed.

tightened. The adjustment of the assembled parts does not, in any way, depend upon the rig builder and a symmetrical structure is always obtained. The parts being properly cut in manufacture and the openings properly placed, it is impossible for the derrick rigger to assemble the derrick to produce an unsymmetrical structure.
It is to be understood that while I have described the preferred embodiments of my invention, various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A derrick fitting comprising a body portion including a substantially cylindrical portion adapted to receive upper and lower le sections, said body portion being provide with an opening, a rotatable member mounted in said opening and provided with an eccentric opening for the reception of an end of a brace member, and means connected between said rotatable member and the brace to prevent rotation of said rotatable member.
2. A derrick fitting comprising a body "vent rotation of said rotatable member.
3. A derrick fitting comprising a body portion including a cylindrical portion adapted to receive the ends of upper and lower leg sections, said body portion being provided with an opening, a rotatable member mounted in said opening and provided with an eccentric opening to receive an end of a brace member, a handle carried by said rotatable member and a ring slidable upon the brace and adapted to receive the end of said handle to prevent rotation of said rotatable member.
