To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ERNEsr H. MITTMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed Holders and Troughs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a feed holder and trough, and the object is to provide a device of this type in which the grain is fed by gravity from a bin or bins, in order to maintain a substantially constant supply in the trough.

A further object is to provide a plurality of bins, with means for regulatin the flow of grain from the bins indepenc ently, in order that two or more kinds of feed may be supplied in given proportions.

A still further object is to provide a device which shall include a trough mounted between the end walls of the casing, and a bin or bins located between said end walls and having an inlet opening at the top, ac cessible when the casing is secured on either side of a fence, or inclosing element of a pen, or is secured to a wall in the posit on best suited for the purpose which it is intended.

A still further object is to provide a device in which the amount and proportion of grain supplied may be controlled, and which shall in a sense constitute a self feeder, the receptacle being so mounted and secured that the waste of the grain is prevented.

lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of elements hereinafter described and claimed.

11 and 12, and a rear wall 14. Connected with the rear wall are securing devices 15 and 16, off set as shown in order that they adjacent edge of the cover.

The cover 18 is hinged as shown at 19, and elements 20 are secured to the inclined upper surface of the cover, and project downwardly and inwardly as shown, and

limit the movement of the cover when raised, so that it will tilt backward slightly from the vertical, and yet remain within easy reach from the opposite side. It is intended to support the device at the proper height on elther side of a fence or the inclosing element of a pen, or on the wall of a barn or the like, and in either of these positions the inlet opening will be readily accessible to the individual renewing the supply of feed.

A trough 22 is mounted above the bottom of the casing, and grain is supplied thereto from bins 23 and 24, any suitable number of bins being however provided. The front wall 25 of the bin is inclined as shown, and the flow of grain is controlled by a slide or gate 26. The slide cooperates with the deflected wall 26 of the trough, this wall forming the lower wall of the bin. Each slide is provided with a handle 27, and the bolts 28 pass through slots 29 in the wall 25, the bolts being slidable with reference to the slots. The supply from the bins may therefore be controlled, both as to quantity and as to proportion, so that two or more kinds of grain may be fed in the manner desired. Three bins are shown in the modification illustrated in Fig. 6. Otherwise the construction is substantially the same. Suitable bracing devices are provided, transverse braces 31 extending from the front side 32 of the trough to the front wall of the bin. The braces 31 are riveted or otherwise secured to the outstanding or annular flanges 33 formed on the lower edge of the wall 25, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. A vertical brace 34 extends from the front wall of the trough to the upper wall of the bins. It is obvious however that modifications may be made in of this character, and in other details of construction, within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A device of the class described having a rear wall and side walls extending therefrom, said rear wall extending inwardly to form a trough in combination with the side walls, a rod joining the side walls adjacent the tops thereof at the front, a wall supported by said rod extending downwardly and inwardly toward the rear wall, a cover pivoted on said rod, brace means extending from the trough to the fourth mentioned wall,lsaid fourth mentioned wall terminating short of the inwardly extending portion of the first wall to provide a gap, and
