Description

v UNITED STATES rrro.
WILLIAM V. GREEN AND JOHN M. KINTZEL, OF WELLSVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS OR CATARRH REMEDIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,951, dated June 17, I873; application filed May 19, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WM. V. GREEN and JOHN M. KINTZEL, of Wellsville, in the county of Golumbiana, and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and Improved Compound for a Oatarrli Remedy; and We do hereby'declare that the following is a full, clear, and complete description thereof.
The nature of this compound is such that when inhaled through the nostrils it will remove headache, catarrh, cold in the head. It will, in case of chronic catarrh, inflammation, ulceration, and soreness of the mucous membranes of the head and throat, reduce such inflammation, effectually remove such ulceration and soreness, and restore the affected parts to their normal condition.
This compound is composed of the following ingredients, and in about the herein-named proportions: Four ounces cubebs; five ounces licorice one ounce alum one-half ounce ammonia, (hartshorn.)
Each of the said ingredients is reduced to a fine powder, and then intimately combined,
by grinding or otherwise, so as to produce a very fine powder, in which state it is ready for use, and may be used by inhaling through the nostrils to relieve the head from the effect of cold, acute or chronic catarrh, soreness, and ulceration, and inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nasal glands.
The proportions herein given are considered to be the best, but the same may be varied without changing the character of our compound as far as its beneficial and curative properties are concerned, as the relative proportions of the ingredients composing this compound may be varied Without changing the essential features of the preparation claimed.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described compound, composed of the ingredients and in about the proportions herein named, for the purpose set forth.
XVILLIAM V. GREEN. JOHN M. KINTZEL.
