UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
,'BRYCE B. PERROV, O TACOIVIA, WASHINGTON.
DISPLAY-BOX.
To a?? eti/icm 'it may effimera:
Be ltnown that l. Barren B, Pnniiow, citizen of the United States, residing` at Tacoma. in the county of Pierce and State of lllasliington. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Bones; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear. 4ind exact description of the invention. such as will enable others slrilled in the art to which it apperta-ins to malte and use the same.
rhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in display cases and more particularly to a sectional bon or display case which can be used either for display purposes, the main object of the invention being the provision of a case having a plurality of cells arranged within the main case whereby to contain various types of articles so that the same can be readily placed on display and also to provide a removable cover for the goods whereby the whole device can be used for transportation purposes if so desired. i
Another object of the invention is the provision of a display case wherein a number of cells are collectively arranged within a main case and suitably secured together and also secured to the main case whereby the cells will be retained in their respective positions within the main case and the provision of a removable cover which can be readily removed and engaged over the bottoin of the box when the articles contained within the cells are on display, said cover being adapted to inclose the upper portion of the box when the case is used in transportation.
lVith the above and other objects in view' the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein;
Figure l is a perspective view of a display case constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a detail longitudinal sectional view taken through one corner of the case;
and.
Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings it will be noted that in the construction of my improved case I provide a Specification of Letters Patent. Patqgnied Dec. 6, 1921,
Application filed December 13, 1920. l
Serial No. 430,401.
main casing l which may be formed of wood.) metal or any other desirable material and arranged within this main case a plurality of boxes or individual cells as indicated at 2, the box or cells in the present instance being shown as arranged transversely of the case l, the said cells being the length of the width of the box l, but it will be understood that number of cells may be arranged in the box and any particular arrangement can be carried out and also various sizes can be used in place of the ones disclosed in the drawings.
In order to retain the cells 2 in position within the main case l leather binding strips 3 are provided7 said binding strips being arranged over the adjoining edges of the cells 2 to connect the cells togetherl and in order to retain the cells within the case l, this binding can be arranged along the end walls of each of the cells and extended over onto the top edge of the case 1 so that the cells will be readily attached to the main case. Each of the cells arranged at the ends of the case l are provided with a binding strip 3 which extends along the entire length of the cell and having its edge engaged with the top of the end of the case and from this it will'be apparent that the cells 2 will be readily secured in position within the case l. The binding strip 3 is preferably of what is known upon the market as leatherette paper and is to be of suficient width so that the saine will extend across the top of the adjoining walls of the cells 2 and down upon the side walls a sutlicient distance to securely hold the two side walls in their ad- Joining position.
`When the case is used for display purposes as shown in Fig. l, the cover l is generally indicated by the numeral l and is arranged over the bottom of the box so as to be entirely out of the way and readily accessible when it is desired to close the case. In Fig. 2 a portion of the cover 4 is shown arranged over the top of the boX and it is preferred to have this cover made of the same material as the case, although it will be understood that any suitable material may be used. One of the main advantages of this display box is that fishing tackle and other similar small articles can be readily packed in the box by the manufacturer or wholesale dealer and the goods shipped to the retailer where the bof; can be used for display purposes. Thus it will be seen that the box is not only useiul the box l and another serieslof cells readily' 201 as a display case, but equally as useful when shipping the goods from the manufacturer or Wholesaler.
Vhile I have shown and described the cells 2 as secured to the main box l by hav ing the binding strip 3 extending onto the upper edges of lthe Walls of the box, it Will be understood that this can be eliminated and the cells removed from the box l as a unit if it should be found desirable7 thus it will be noted that one case or boi; can be used for different sized cells. For instance, inFig. l the `cells illustrated extend from side Wall to side Wall of the box, but should it be desired to display a plurality oi small articles requiring a great many `more cells than are herein illustrated, thecells shown in Fig. l could be collectively removed from inserted. A
v What is claimed is; Y Y
A device of the classA described including a main receptacle, a removable cover therefor, said cover being engaged over the bottom of the receptacle when the receptacle is Ain use7 a plurality of individual receptacles arranged Y'transversely Within the main receptacle and disposedin parallel relation with respect to each other providing a continuous receptacle from one sidewall of the main receptacle tothe other, means for connecting the abutting side Walls of the individual receptacles `and means for connecting the individual receptaclesto the sideand end Walls of the main receptacle. Y In testimony whereof I aiix Vmy signature.
