Be it known that I, -GUSTAVE L. La ROY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas Cit in the county of Jackson and State of issouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Screens, of which the following is a specification. I

This invention relates to a frame for holdingthe.wire mesh used for screening windows, the principal object of the invention being to make the frame adjustable to fit different sizes of windows and to provide means for clamping the screen to the frame so. that the use of tacks and the like is eliminated.

Another object of the invention is to provide means for removably holding the frame in the window.

As shown in these views, the frame is formed of the four pairs of corner pieces 1, the two pairs of connecting side bars 2 and the two pairs of connecting end bars 3. The

'corner pieces are simply angle plates which are arranged in pairs and are adapted to re ceive the corners of the wire mesh, shown at 4, between them. The ends of these corner pieces are provided with slots 5 and the side and end bars are provided with spaced holes 6 which extend throughout their lengths. The side and end bars are adapted to overlap the corner pieces with the ends of the corner pieces lying between the said bars. The parts are clamped together by the screw bolts 7 passing through the holes and slots and havin the nuts 7 engaging their ends. made of different dimensions by adjusting the side and end bars relative] to the corner pleces and holding them in ad usted position by the bolts and nuts. It will also be seen that the edges of the wire mesh are held between the parts of'the frame so that the lower-edges are hidden from view.

I provide the side and end bars with inwardly extending flanges 8 for gripping the wlre mesh when the parts are in clamping position. These side and end bars are made wider than the corner pieces so that the flanges will 'also engage the inner edges of these corner pieces.

The means for holding the frame in the window comprises a pair of spring controlled dogs 9 pivoted to the corner pieces at one end of the frame and a 10 carried b other end of provided with a'laterally extending point 11 for engaging the window frame and metal sockets may be placed in the window frame for receiving these points if desired. The spring plunger engaging the sill of the window will frictionally hold the lower end'of the frame in place. By raisingthis plunger the frame may be swung-outwardly or inwardly', the points 11 acting as pivots or the frame can be entirely removed from the window b pressing the lower ends of the dogs inwar 1y against the action ofthe spring to release the points from the window frame. It isthought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the sco e of the appended claims.

What claim is 1. A screen supporting frame of the character described comprising corner pieces of angle shape, pairs of side and end connecting bars forming the intermediate frame members, inwardly projecting flanges provided on the inner edge of said side and end bars, means for holding the frame in the window, including spring controlled dogs pivoted to the corner pieces at one end of the frame and having laterally extending points, and a the frame.
