Description

J. 01 SCHWARZ AND G. BJORKLUND.
PNEUMATIC ACTION; APPLICATION FILED OCT. 6. NH]- 1,398,469, Patented Nov. 29,1921.
INVENTORS Jusiz'ndschwarz.
A TTOR/VEV UNITED STATES PATENT QFFEB IUSTINO. SCHWARZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., AND GUSTAV BJORKLUND, OF WEST NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY.
PNEUMATIC ACTION.
Application filed October 6, 1917.
To all to 710m it may concern Be it known that we, Josrm O. Scnwanz, a citizen of the United States, residing New York city, N. Y., and GUsn-iv BJORK- LUND, a. sub 'ect of the King of Sweden, residing at l est New York, N. J., respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Actions, of which the following is a specification, refer ence being had therein to the accompany ing drawing.
Our invention relates to improvements in pneumatic actions for player pianos and has particular reference to pneumatic action adapted for use in a grand piano.
Referring to the accompanying drawing indicated as Figure 1, we have illustrated in side elevation with parts broken away and partlyin cross section, an application of our invention to a grand piano.
2 indicates the key bottom and 3 the key with a suitable form of piano action above the same. a indicates the pneumatic and 5 a bell crank form of lever pivoted at 6 upon the block 7 and pivotally connected at the topby a wire 8 to the pneumatic 4 at 9 as shown. The lower end of the bell crank lever is provided with a suitable striker piece 10, adapted to lift the block 11 secured at the back of the key 3. 12 indicates a wire screw in the block 11 bent to clear the lever 5 and adapted to lift the damper lever 13 pivotally mounted at 1% and normally retained in the position shown by the light spring 15 secured in the flange 16 upon the fixed rail 17. At the outer end of the damper lever 13 is pivotally mounted the block 18 provided with the wire 19 attachingr the damper 20 through the guide 21. The stop 12 is beneath the hammer 18 so that when the pneumatic 4 is collapsed, the bell crank lever 5 is drawn leftwardly at the top upon its pivotal bearing 6, lifting the block 11 by the striker 10 at the back end of the key 3 which in turn lifts Specification of Letters latent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1921.
Serial No. 195,193.
the damper lever 18 clearing the piano string 22 which is thereupon struck by the hammer 23 through the piano action above the key 3 in the same manner as if actuated manually by striking the frontend of said key.
The piano action itself forming no part of this invention, it is not necessary to specify it in detailed construction and the pneumatic action is susceptible of application to various forms of piano actions and the pneumatic action itself may be changed in details in construction and arrangement without departing from the spirit of invention as claimed.
lVe claim:
1. In a piano and player action of the class described, an'actuating pneumatic and key in front of th same, a bell crank pivoted between said pneumatic and said key whereby said action may be operated by said key or by said pneumatic through said bell crank and said key, said pneumatic, key and bell-crank substantially in horizontal alinement.
2. In a piano and player action of the class described, an actuating pneumatic and key in front of the same, a bell crank pivoted between said pneumatic and said key whereby said act-ion may be operated by said key or by said pneumatic through said bell crank and said key, one leg of said bell era *1:
substantially immediately under the inner end of said key, said pneumatic, key and bell-crank substantially 1n horizontal alinement.
In testimony whereof we hereunto affix JUSTIN O. SCHWARZ. GUSTAV BJORKLUND.
