Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIeE.
DAVID W. BAIRD, OF GENEVA, NEW YORK'.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING-CLIPS FOR CRRIAGES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,641.8, dated J une 10, 1873; application filed January 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID W. BAIRD, of Geneva, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented Vcertain Improvements in Connecting the Perch to Axle and Head-Block of Garriages, of which the following is a specification:
The nature ot' my invention relates to a device for connecting the perch or reach of carriages to the axle and head-block, as will be more fully set forth hereafter.
Figure l is a plan -view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a view ofthe spring-plate. Fig. llis a plan view ofmodication of my invention. Fig. 5 is a side view ofthe same.
In Figs. 1 and 2, R represents the axle-stock, P the axle, I the spring-plate, and S the spring, all of which are firmly bound together by clip A, clip-plate o, and nuts T. Extending outward `from the side of the clip are two prongs, which form a socket for receiving the end of the perch C, the same being held firmly in place by means of the bolts N. This socket may either extend outward on a level with the bottom, or from the center of the clip, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. In Fig. theclip is shown binding the head-block B, head-block plate E, and spring S, firmly together, the ends of clip passing up through the spring-plate I and secured by the nuts U. Upthrough all of these parts is passed' the'l king-bolt K, and secured upon the top of the solid raised center of the springi plate I, shown in Fig. 5. The spring-plate `I is provided with the small projecting lugs G, which extend downward overl the side of the spring, and has raised flanges extending across its surface, so as to receive the clip, when used, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
The clip A having a socket for the perch, substantially as shown. y
