Description

k. wATTENDoRF. i Tools for Inserting'andwithdrawing;Faucets. No. 139,443. Patented May 27,1813;`
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KARL NA. WATTENDORF, OF NEW YORK, N.A Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOOLS FOR INSERTING AND WITHDRAWING` FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,443, dated May 27, 1873 application led April 24, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL AUGUsT WAT- TENDOEF, of the city of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Tool for Inserting and Withdrawing (locks of Beer and other Barrels, of which the following is a specification:
Figure I in the accompanying drawing represents a front view of the improved tool embodying my invention. Fig. II is a top view of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the i arrangement of a lever hinged to a fixed frame,
and provided with a cappiece, which is placed upon the end of the cock, situated on the barrel, when said cock can be quickly forced into the barrel-head by the downward motion of said lever. The end of the lever is forked, and when vthe cock requires to be withdrawn the lever is unhinged from the frame, and this forked end placed around the cock, resting upon the barrel, when the cock can easily be drawn out of the barrel-head without the application or use of a hammer, and without any noise.
A is an open slotted frame, attached to the wall or any other suitable fixed place. The slotted partis provided with a number of holes, fr, to regulate the position of the lever according to the size of the barrel. Into this slotted part J of the frame the end of the lever B is placed, hinged upon a suitable pin inserted through either of the holes x. To this lever B a cap-piece, C, is hinged at n, slightly hollowed out at its under side to prevent the same from sliding off from the cock.
The outer end D of the lever B is forked (see Fig. II) and made slightly tapering to t different sizes of cocks, and is provided with a rounded projection, m, at the under side, close to the forked end D.
When a cock is to be inserted into a barrel the same is placed under the lever in such a position that the'corked hole, where the` cock is to be inserted, comes under the cappiece G. The cock E is then placed upon the cork in the barrel hole, and the cappiece C upon the usual projection c provided generally on cocks, or upon the end of said cock,
D of the lever B is placed around the lower part w of the cock E, with the rounded prov `ection m of the lever B resting upon the head of the barrel and acting as a fulcrum, when a downward motion of the other en d of said lever B will force or pull the cock out of the barrel-head. (See dotted lines, Fig. I.)
By the use of this tool thenecessity of a hammer for driving in or knocking outof the cock is dispensed with, and consequently the detrimental effects of the blows from the hammer against the cock are totallyr prevented, and either operation can be performed with out any noise. i
What I claim as .my invention, and desire to secure by Letters IPatent, is
The lever B, capable of being hinged at one end to asuitable frame, and having its other end, D, forked, and provided with a hinged cappiece, C, and a rounded projection, mf, at the under side,.near the forked end D, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
