UNITED STATES BAL'rzAR EMANUEI. ROLLING, or RACINE, WISCONSIN.
DIE-BLOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent. l
Patented Get. 18, 1921.
Application led January 15, 1920. Serial No. 351,640.
To all whom t mag/concern:
Be it known that I, BALTZAR EMANUEL ROLLING, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Die-Blocks, of which the following is 'a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in die blocks more particularly adapted for use in die casting machines.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide a die block for making what is commonly known as finished castings in which the molten metal is automatically forced into thedie under pressure and when themetal has become hard the castings are automatically ejected from the die without liability of breakage.
A further obj ect ofthe invention is to provide a die block which is open at both ends to permit its easy attachment to a die table and adjustment with relation thereto in any direction. j
A further object of the invention is to provide a die block in which it is not necessary to fasten the ejector plate to the plunger of the die casting machine.
- A further object of the invention is to provide a die block to which the die may be easily removably. connected and further, in which the die block has a large unobstructed opening to permit the positioning of a movable casting ejecting means part which may be easily interchanged to fit different forms of castings.
A further object of the invention isto providea .die block which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose described.
`With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the improved die block and its parts and combinations vas set forth `in the/claims', and all equivalents thereof. Y j .Y
'In the accompanying drawing in `which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the improveddie block shown attached to a portion of a die casting machine;
F ig. 2 is a perspective view of the die block;
\ Fig. 3 is a sectional view of portions shownV the vertical reciprocal head or table, 8 the Y' ej coter-plunger and 9 the improved dieblock adjustably mounted on the reciprocal head or table 7. The die block 9 is of rectangular form and has a comparatively large rectangular opening 10 extending vertically therethrough and which opening forms opposite shoulders 11 extending inwardly from the lower opposite `end portions of the block. The opposite end portions are also provided with outwardly extending slotted ears 12 for receiving bolts 13 which attach the block to the table. To permit adjusting the die block horizontally in all directions' the table or head 7 is provided with T-shaped slots 14C to receive slotted bolt members 15. These members 15 are also of T-shape toiit the slots 14 and the headed ends of said bolts 13 ft in and extend through the slots 15 of said members. Said slots 15 extend at right angles tothe slots 14 to permit the lateral movement of bolts therein, and as the lslots 14 permit adjustment at right angles thereto,
kthe die block may be easily adjusted as `desired. Nuts 16 threaded on the upper end portions of the bolts 13 and bearing `on the upper surfaces of the slotted ears 12 clamp the parts in adjusted position..
The die block 9 at each corner is provided with a vertically extending opening 17 i to receive bolts 18` which thread into the corner portions of the lower die :portion 19 `and fasten said die portion to the die block. The lower end portions 17 of the openings 17 are enlarged to accommodate the` heads of the bolts 18.
A rectangular space 2O which coincides approximately` with the opening 10 of the die block is formed in the reciprocal head or table 7 to receive the ejector plunger 8, the stem 7 of which extends through the head 7 Resting on top of the ejector plunger 8 are ejector plates 21 having upwardly extendlng ejector pins 22and stop pins 23 which extend through the die part 19.V The die pins 22 are of small diameter and terminate at the upper surface of the casting recess 19 of the die part in position to push the casting out of the die part V19 when the said die part is moved downwardly by the reciprocal head 7 and away from the upper lixed die part 24. 1
rlhe stop pins 23 terminate at the upper face of the die part and engage the lower surface of the upper die part 24 to properly position the upper ends of the ejector pins 22 with ing is pushed out of the lower die.
The upper die part 24k is mounted on a die block and the die block is mounted Von the adjustably fixed head 6 in substantially the same manner as the lower die part and die block and the same reference characters will epplyl The molten-metal is forced into the casting recesses of the die parts when said parts are in closed position through the opening 25 formed between the two die parts.
From the foregoing description it'will be seen that the die block is of very simple constructionand well adapted for the purpose described. `f
-What I claim as my invention is;
l. In' combination with aV die casting machine having T-shaped slots, of a die block therefor, consisting of a block member of rectangular form having a comparatively lai'ge ejector opening extending vertically therethrough and also having projecting apertured ears to receive :bolts for attachment to the T-shaped slots of the machine and also having bolt openings extending vertically through theV block for .attaching a-die part to the blocln Y 2. Inl combination with'a die casting machinehaving T-shaped slots and a central recess, of a die block therefor, consisting of a Vblo'rlr'member of rectangular form having a having projecting apertured ears and vertically extending bolt openings, bolts having their headed ends within the T-shaped slots and extending through the apertured earsl j ecting apertured ears and vertically extend'- ing bolt openings, bolts having theirheaded ends within the T-shaped slots and extending through the apertured ears for adjustably/*connecting the block to the machine member, slotted bolt members interposed between the bolt headsl and the slottedportions of the movable headand through which the bolts extend, a die part mounted on the block member and having a plurality of ejector pin and other openings extending vertically therethrough, and an ejector plungerv positioned in the movable head recess and having a plurality of ejector pins which'extend into the pinfopenings of the die part `and also having stop pins whichextend through the other openings of the die part. 4
5. In combination, a' die casting machine having a fixed 'head and famovabl'e head, said movable head having T-shaped slots and a central recess, a block member lhaving a comparatively large opening extending vertically therethrough and also having projecting apertured ears and `vertically *extending 4boltopenings, f bolts having their headed ends withinfthe T-shaped slots and extending through the apertured ears for adjustably connecting the bloclto the machine member, slotted bolt members-interposed betweenthe bolt heads and the slotted portions of theinovable :head and throughwhich` the bolts extend,`said bolt members 'being of T- shape to vfit the T-shaped slots of the movable head, the 'slots of said bolt ineinbers'extending at right angles to lthe'slots of the movable head,-a die part mounted o'n the block member and vhaving va Vplurality of ejector pinl and other openings extending'vertically therethrough, andan ejector plunger-positioned in the movable head recess and *having a plurality offeje'ctor pinswhichextendinto the pin openings of the die part and 'also having stop 'pins which, extend throughthe otherlopeningsof: the' die part. i f: f
k6. A block meinberfor a die casting inachine, consistingV of a rectangular block having a' central rectangularvertically extending ejector opening of ycomparatively large Size and alsohaving oppositeV end slotted ears und vertically extending corner bolt openings, said central. opening forming opposite inwardly extending egeetor supporting 5 shoulders.
T. In combination, a die casting machine comprising a support for a die block having slots therein, said slots being T shaped in cross section, bolt members shaped to t said 10 slots and movable therein, said members having slots T shaped in cross section and extending transversely of said first named slots, bolts for attachment of a` die block, the heads of said bolts seated in the slots of said members whereby a die block attached by 15 said bolts may be adjusted in all directions in the plane of the support.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
