UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MILTON H. SHOENBERG AND GEORGE J. HENRY,'OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
ADJUSTABLE ELECTRIC HEATER.
Specification of Letters Iatent.
Patented Oct. 11, 1921.
To all whom it mdy concern:
Be it known that we, MILTON H. SHOEN- BERG and GEORGE J. HENRY, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Electric Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention has for its object the providing of an electric heater, having adjustment in the several directions which will make it most useful in service while retaining simplicity of construction, in operation and a high degree of efliciency.
By referring to the accompanying drawings the invention will be made clear.
Figure 1. Is a side view of my heater, partly in section.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are detailed views of the adjustable double joint and electrical connections therethrough.
Throughout the figures the same numerals refer to similar parts.
The base or standard is shown by the numeral 1, with which is adjustably mounted the reflector 2, having substantially at its focal point, an electrical resistance or heat element 3. Mounted in front of said heat element is the protective cage 4, preferably consisting of a plurality of wires affixed to a ring 5, and which is engageable under the flange 6 of the reflector 2; the heat element 3 is mounted upon the stem 7, with which is formed the hollow hinge joint 8, and the stem 7 is provided with a hole 9, whichmay be cored and which passes through tongue 8 of the joint providing a passage way as indicated by the arrows 10, 11, through which electrical connections are to be made in the well known way, through the socket 12 of the heat element 3.
The tongue 8 is provided with a hole 13 so that it may be clamped between the two jaws 14, 15 of the base 1, by the swivel pivot 16 and may be locked in any position by the capstan head nut 17. The base 1 is to be cored having an opening therethrough at 17, between jaws '14, 15, so that the circuit as carried by the cord 18 may be carried up through the opening 17, and follow the course of the arrows 10, 11, through the stem 7 to the socket 12. The stem 7 may be turned as at 19 and have mounted thereon the collar 20, carrying the bracket arm 21 on which is to be mounted the reflector 2.
The collar 20 and arm 21 of reflector 2 may be clamped in any of its adjusted positions by the screw 22, the rotary movement ofthe reflector 2 with the collar 20 being entirely independent of the electrical connections.
We cla1m: 1. In an electrical heater comprising a reflector and a base member, said base being 2 heat radiating element mounted on the other end of the stem and substantially about the focus of the reflector, an electrical circuit connection through the base the swivel and the stem adapted toenergize the said element. 2. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 and a protective wire cage supported from the periphery of the said reflector and inclosing the said element.
3. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 and means for fixing the reflector and its cage in any of their adjusted positions about the axis of the swivel.
1. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 wherein the reflector is mounted upon the stein by a circular joint whereby the reflector may be rotated into any desired position about the stem.
. Intestimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands at San Francisco, California, this 24th day of September 1919.
MILTON H. SHOENBERG. GEORGE J. HENRY.
In presence of- P. S. PIDWELL.
