To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. SAUER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of ochester, in the county of Monroe and tate of New York, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Lifting Jacks, of which the following is a specification. v v
The present invention relates to'lifting jacks, and an object thereofis to provide a lifting jack which has strength and durability and at. the same time a maximum amount of power Another object of the of the invention is to provide a. lifting jack whichmay be operated from the'rear thereof To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts all of which will be hereinafter described, the novelvfeatures being pointed out in the appended claims.

In the illustrated embodiment of the in- ,vention there is-provided a lifting bar formed in this instance of two. pieces of. angle iron 1 connected together by tie pieces 1', each having oneof its flanges disposed outwardly and horizontallyand supporting a casting 2 preferably formed with intersecttogether by tie pieces 7.

Each pawl is provided with a weight 40, which normally tends to hold such pawl'in cooperation with. its ratchet-39 so that, as the intermediate frame formed by the ;pl ate 6 is raised, the

In lowering the jack, the screw 14 may be turned or the jack may be lowered quickly by disengaging the pawls 36 with the ratchets 39.
From the'foregoing it will be seen that \there has been provided a liftin jack formed with a rdugh adjustiiig mec anism and a power adjustment. The rough ad-- justment may be quickly obtained, while the power adjustment gives great power. Both the adjusting mechanisms are sim la in operatlon and have great durability and strength. A lifting jack comprising a supporting member, a. lifting member 'adjustably supported-onlsaid, supporting member, a horizontallyarranged' screyt for operating the meager lifting member with reference to the supporting member, said screw having an operating portion at one end, and an auxiliary operating member for the screw operable from either side of said screw at an angle to the axis of the screw and geared to the screw to transmit motion thereto.
