To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANoIs E. Times, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lansing, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Gages, of which the following is a specification reference being'had to the accompanying drawings. v
This invention relates to certain improvements in saw gages, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this gen-- eral character having novel and improved means whereby a desired angle of cut may beefiected with convenience and facility.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character embodying a table or base having associated therewith a saw arranged for reciprocationin a fixed path of travel in a direction parallel to the working face of the table or base and wherein said working face of the table or base is provided with means whereby the work may be disposed at a required angle withrespect to the saw to effect a desired cut.
' The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved saw gage whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed. I In order that my invention may be the better understood, I Will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, B denotes a base or table of desired dimensions and preferably oblong in form and having its upper or working face fiat. Disposed transversely across the under face of the base or table B are the cleats 1 which provide means whereby said base or table B may be supported a distance above the surface upon which it is rested.
Disposed longitudinally of the upper or working face of the base or table B and at substantially the transverse center thereof is a groove orchannel 2 in which is snugly engaged the wooden'spline 3 having an upper fiat face which is substantially flush with the upper or working face of the base or table B'when said spline is in applied position.
Extending upwardly from the base or table B at opposite sides of the groove or channel 2 and in close proximity thereto are the guide members G of duplicate construction and transversely alined. Each of the guide members G is formed of a single length of material arranged into substantially the form of an'inverted U with the free end portions of the side arms 4 disposed through the base or table B and clamped thereto through the medium of the collar 5 carried by each of the arms 4 and contacting with the upper or working surface of the base or table B and a coacting clamping nut 6 engaged with the lower'portion of each of said arms and engaging the under surface of the base or table B.
The intermediate or horizontal portion 7 of each of the members G in close proximity to one of the side arms 4 is bent to provide Surrounding the portion of the shank within the slot 9 is an antifriction sleeve 11 whereby the sawS may be reciprocated with a minimum of frictional resistance.

Operatively engaged with the guide members G at the ends thereof and adjacent the top of the side arms 1 are the thumb screws 17 whereby said guide members G may be moved one relative to the other to tighten or loosen the sawS between the guide members Gr or to tightly clamp said saw S between the guide members when the saw is not in use. When it is desired to remove the saw for purposes of filing or repairs, it is only necessary to sufficiently retract the thumb screws 17 to permit said saw to be readily lifted out from between the guide members G.
Slidably mounted upon the inner leg 18 of the loop 8 of each of the guide members Gr and the arm 4 remote therefrom are the blocks 19 adapted to be, maintained in a fixed position through the instrumentality of the binding screws 20 threaded through a said blocks forbinding action upon either the leg 18 or'the arm 4.
The blocks 19' extend sufficiently within thespace between the guide members @7130 provide stops for coaction with an under or inner edge of the back of the saw to limit the downward movement of the saw so that said blocks operate as a gage to regulate the depth of the cut of the saw into the work,

1. A saw gage comprising a base, guide by properly arranging members extending upwardly from the base and in transverse alinement, said members vertically directed loops open at their upper portions of the guide members for moving the same one relative tothe' other in a transverse direction.

A device of the character described comprising, in combination, a base, guide members extending upwardly from said base and transversely alined, said members being provided with transversely 'alined and vertically disposed loops, a saw arranged between the guide members and provided with a longitudinally disposed slot, a shank extending through the loops of the guide members and the slot-of the saw, means for holding said shank -against displacement, and a sleeve loosely surrounding the portion 3.
