IMPROVEMENT IN LAYING CONCRETE PAVEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,272, dated May 27, 1873; application filed i March 15, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEssE W. SNYDEE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement'in Concrete Pavements; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof:
resents the same in section.
Description of Iron Frame-Work.
The frame-work consists of iron, threesixteentlis of an inch in thickness, more or less, by two inches broad, and beveled nearly sharp on the under edge, beyond which, ext-end sharp beveled points, which are stuck part Way in the ground for the purpose of holding the frame n position, and also leaving a space intervening between the ground and frame, so division of the concrete may only extend half-way through. I then ll in with concrete until the frame-work is full, when it Fig. 4. showsa cross-section of is troweled 0E and the frame withdrawn, thus giving to the pavement the appearance of being laid in blocks, leaving the` spaces, which run half-way through the palgnent, to be filled Witliws'd'bwif''tlestable material.

part, which'is along the lines a, in Fig. 1,
where'th'e frame-work hasbeen withdrawn.
Claim.
What I claim `as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is`" The method of laying concrete pavements,
by molding the concrete, nrconnecton with an iron frame having cross-bars with beveled i projections on their under sides, which extend halt` way through the concrete, so that when the frame is withdrawn V-shaped grooves will be left in the concrete, to be iilled with sand or other analogous material, in the manner and for the purpose specified.
