[oullwhowtz'tmag/ concern.: Be it known that I, PAUL Louisv CHAM- roNNoIs-,a :citizen ofthe FrenchRepublic,
residing at villiers-le-sec, Creuilly,. Galvados,Fra nce, have inventedfcertain new anduseful Improvements in al Motor-Plow, (for which I have filed an application in France, Feb. 1, 1912,LP.atent #479,793,) of which the followingv is ai specification.
This invention relates to an automobile plow of that type in which a hauling rope is used for propelling the plow. The oscillating plow frame has shares at each end l which throw out to the right and to the left.
The propelling of this plow is effected by means of a motor acting upon a rope anchored at convenient points and extending from one end of the field to the other. The plow is moved along this rope by meansof rope disks driven from the'motor, the rope being wound around these disks. A steering apparatus acts upon the rope so that the furrow wheel can be always maintained in the furrow.
If a plow is operated by means of a hauling rope instead Vof by a chain (which is much more advantageous owing to the lesser weight of the rope) the difficulty ispto ob-V tain a suflicient adherence of the rope upon the disks. This can be obtained only by a strong tension of the rope which must exist from one end of the field to the other up to the two points at which the hauling rope is anchored. With such a tension the steer,- ing is possible only if the rope runs in and out at two points standing close together and situated in the median plane of the plow parallel with thel direction of movement.
The invention relates to the special construction of the driving disks and of the guide block whichV present all the advantages mentioned above.
frame 1 whichv always remains horizontal and upon which are mounted at the one side a furrow wheel 2 and atl the other side two wheels 3 and 4, said wheels being adjustable Yin verticaldirection.r Upon' the framely vare further mounted two disks 7 and" 8, the 'motor 91and the steering apparatus. 51A .V-
shaped oscillating yframe 5 with sharesgtis ;.y
pivotallly .'mountedlupon an axle 11 of the xed frame 1. v
`The I steering '-.apparatus vconsists a l block 4,12` (Figs... 3 .and ll) 'in-whichtwovertizoal 4disks 13::and 14. arenlooselywmounted which are situated in the longitudinal plane.
Two pairs of vertical drums 15, 16 and 17,.
18 are further mounted in said block 12.
The block 12 forms a nut and is screwed upon two parallel screw spindles 19, 20 situated in the transverse plane and along which the block can move when said screw spindles are being turned simultaneously. The hauling rope 21 for propelling the plow comes from the left, runs in under the disk 13, passes between the two 'pairs of drums 15-18 and 16'-17, is wound three times around Vthe disk 7 beginning from` above, leaves this diskV beyond the center, passes again between the twol pairs of drums 15-16 and 17-18, is wound three times around the disk 8 which it leaves above the center, passes under the disk 14, between the two pairs of drums 15-18 and 16-17 and runs out toward the right to the otherV The steering of the plow is obtained by ,moving the block 12 upon the screw spindles 19-20, and the point of attachment of the rope 21 coming from the lefty being thus modified with regard to the plow, said plow is turned to the rightvor to the left.
The moving of the two screw spindles 19--20 can be effected by means of a handwheel, not shown. This handwheel can be connected with the fixed frame 1, in
4vwhich case it stands vertical and at the side v,
of the furrow wheel 2 so that the driver i can easily ascertain whether thexplow moves in proper direction. There could further be arranged two seats for the driver, one
upon each of the oscillating frame. In this case the shaft of the hand wheel is articulated so that it can be used from both seats.
The rope disks with horizontal axle bearmsV of the V-shaped ing situated under the .frame the Size of the device is reduced as much as possible and these parts do not interfere with' the oscillating `movements of the V-shaped frame.
The runnin in and out of the rope is effected in Suc a manner that the different sides of the rope are not in contact whereby wear of the rpe is avoided. s This device permits without changing the, rope, of moving forward or backward. The steering apparatus *permitsV of. maintaining the plow strictly in a determined directionY at either the forward or backward movement.. f
' Having thus described inyinvention'what Iclaimist- A device for propelling and steering an automobile plow with hauling rope having a system of rope disks around which the Y fixed ro lle is wound the plow beingpropelled along t is rope whichisvguided by drums adapted to be displaced transversely charwhich the steering apparatus consists of a Y block which forms a nut upon two horizontal ltransverse screw. spindles, said block being Y acterized bythe arrangement according to drums with vertical axles arranged betweenv said horizontal vrope'dislrs underxthe' fixedV frame of ,the plow.`v
' In witness whereof I :have hereunto set my hand in the presence o'ftwoLwitnesses. y
