To all whom it may concern:
Be it known-that 1, JOHN A. WENDELL, a citizen of the -United States, residing at Montgomery, in the county or" Fayette and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trolof which the following is a specification, reference being had to the ac- This invention relates to improvements in trolley wheels, and more particularly to a to wear are readily removable.
An important object of the invention is to provide a trolley wheel formed of separable sections one of which comprises a wear ring or ring which engages against the trolley and replaced when it becomes'worn.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a trolley wheel of the above mentioned character a bearing part upon which the trolley wheelrotates, which is likewise readily replaceable in the event of wear.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel construction of trolley wheel whereby the removal and renewal of worn sections may be accomplished with a minimum expenditureof labor. o 7
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent throughout the course of the following description. I

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a trolley head or wheel carrier embodying a shank 11 adapted for attachment to the trolley pole and having its upper end furcated to form is a sectional view taken: therespaced arms 12 which are apertured for the s an inside face View of one of the Specification of LettersIatent. reception of a pivot pin 13 preferably taking the form of a bolt.
The numeral 14 indicates duplicate side sections each of which is reduced on its inner face, as at 15, to form an annular shoulder, the side sections beyond the shoulder being reduced in thickness toward the outer edges thereof.
Inwardly of the shoulder 15, each of the side sections is provided with an annular groove 16 upon its inner face with which communicates a plurality of apertures 17 Y extending through the side member. The
side members have a central bore .18 of greater diameter than the diameter of the bolt. These members when combined form at their outer edge an annular. groove adapted for the reception of a wear ring 19, which is wedge-shaped in cross section to coact with the side walls of the recess formed, and which is provided in its outer face with a guiding groove 20 in which the trolley wire W runs. When the sections are assembled, a bushing 21.0f less width than the combined widths of the side members 14; and having a driving fit in the bore '18 thereof is appliedto the side members to hold them in assembled relation, and the bushing 22 of the size to have a driving fit with the bolt 13 is arranged therein, the bushing 22 being of alength equal to the combined widths of the side members 14.
Between the bushings 21 and 22, anti-fricin-position by means of washers 23 fitting" in the, bore 18 of the side members andabutting the ends of the bushing 21, the washers having a bore rotatably receiving the ends of the bushing 23. The annular groove 16 is'combined to form an oil well which is in communication .with the bearing thus formed by means of radial openings 24: formed in the side members, or by a combination of grooves in the side members, and alining with openings 25 formed in the bushing 21.
It will be obvious that when the wheel is removed from the trolley head by removing the bolt 13, the side plates or washers 23 may be readily removed to inspect the bearings to ascertain whether or no the renewal of the anti-friction elements A is necessary, or whether or no the bushings 21 and 22 are sufliciently worn to necessitate their rean anti-friction bearingffor said wheel emfaces thereof with annular grooves combinnewal. Whether or no the wear ring 19 requires renewing may be readily determined by inspecting the outer face thereof andthe renewal, if necessary, may be readily made, as will be obvious.
From the foregoing it is believed to be obvious that I have constructed a trolley wheel which is particularly well adapted for the use for which it is intended by reason.

What I claim:
' 1. In ,a trolley, a pair of duplicate side members combining to form a wheel provided with a peripheral groove, an annular wear ring disposed within the groove, and an antifriction bearing for said wheel embodying a bushing having a driving fit with said side members and serving to hold said side vmembers in assembled relation.
' 2. In a trolley, a pair of duplicate side members combining to form a wheel provided with a peripheral groove, an annular wear ringdisposed within the groove, and
bodying a bushing having a driving fit with said side members-and serving to hold said side' members in assembled relation, said side members being provided in coacting ing to forman oil well, and having openlngs extending therethrough and in communication with the oil well forming grooves,
and alined openings formed in said bushing and sidemembers, the last named openings of the said plates being likewise .in communication with said oil well.
3. In a trolley, a trolley head adapted for attachment to a trolley pole and furcated to form spaced arms, a pivot member extending through said arms, a wheel rotatably mounted' upon said pivot member and comprising a pair ofsimilar side members combining to form in theperiphery of the wheel a groove, an annular wear ring disposed within the groove, an antifriction bearing for said wheel embodying abushing having a driving fit with the side members and serving to hold said side members in assembled relation, a second bushing, having a driving fit with said pivot member, and anti-friction elements disposed intermediate said bushings.
4. In a trolley, a trolley head adapted for attachment to a trolley pole and furcated to form spaced arms, a pivot member extending through said arms, a wheel rotatably mounted upon said pivot member and comprising a pair of similar side members combining to form in the periphery of the wheel a groove, an annular wear ring disposed within the groove, an anti-friction bearing for said wheel embodying a bushing having a driving fit with the side members and serving to hold said side members in assembled relation, and a second bushing having a driving fit with said pivot member and antifriction elements disposed intermediate said bushing, the first named bushing being of less width than the combined thickness of said side members, the bushing engaging said ,pivotmember being of the same width as the combined thickness of the side members, and retaining washers rotatablymounted upon the last named bushing and abutting the ends of the first named bushing.
5. In a trolley, a trolley head adapted for attachment to a trolley pole and furcated to form spaced arms, a pivot member extending through said arms, a wheel rotatably mounted upon said pivot member andcomprising U a pair of similar side members combining to form in the periphery of the wheel a groove, an annular wear ring disposed within the groove, an anti-friction bearing for said wheel embodying a bushing having a driving fit with the side members and serving to hold said side members in assembled relation, a second bushinghaving a driving fit with said ivot member, and anti-friction elements .Idi sposed intermediate said bushings-, said's de members being provided in coacting faces thereof with annular grooves combining to form an oil well and having openings extending therethrough and in communication with the oil well forming grooves, and alined openings, formed in said bushing and side plates, the last named openings of the said plates being likewise in communication with said oil well.
