PATENT oFF1cE.
WILFEED J'. JANDRON, OFMINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
MASK FOR INI-IALATION.
- Speccation of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 20, 1921.
Application filed March 17, 1920. Serial No. 366,539.
To all whom may concern.'
Be it known that I, 1vViLrnED J. JANDRON, a citizen of the United States residing at Minneapolis, in the county of llennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Mask for Inhalation, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates Vto a mask and mask holders for inhalation of chloroform or for medicated oil in cotton, as is often used in diseases like bronchitis, asthma or other chest troubles.
The object of the invention is to provide a convenient, and easily applicable device for said several purposes, and to make the device attachable to the head of the patient so it will always remain in the position it may be set relative to the nose and mouth of the patient.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side view of a human head with my improved device mounted on same in position for use. Fig. 2 is a top view of the device shown in Fig. 1 with the head omitted and the mask holder proper turned upward to about horizontal position. Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section on the line 3 3 in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, a head gear or hood is composed of a metal strip or band 4 curved to encompass the front and sides of the head 5. Detachably secured by hooks 6 upon the inner side of the band is a cushion 7 the rear ends of which are provided with ribbons 87 for tying the band snugly about the head.
Pivoted at 9 to said band are the legs of an arch 10, having at its middle a slit 11, through which extends the rear end of a curved bar 12, which is provided with small embossments 13 to make the bar stay wherever it is set in the slit 11, by engaging one of the edges of the'slit.
The front end of the bar 12 is pivoted at 14 to an arm 15, which is slidably Aand frictionally-held in a guide 16 fixed at the front of theband 4. 1
Frictionally-held by a pivot screw or bolt 17, having a nut 18, are the ends of two band metal loops or yokes 19 and 20. Likewise frictionally held between the ends of said yokes is an arm 21, upon which is slidably and frictionally held a small metal box 22, having a removable cover 23 with perforations or other foraminous portion 24,
while the bottom of the box has several perforations 25. l
Pivoted to the yoke 19 are the legs of two wire arches 26-27, which may be folded to the yoke or raised up therefrom until their tops cross and engage each other by means of curves 28 formed'on them.
I n the operation of the device the hood is adjusted and secured on the head of the patient as shown in Fig. 1. If the gas or aroma of medicated oil is to be inhaled, ab* sorbent cotton or a similar agent is saturated with the medicine and placed into the box 23 and the box swung so close to the face of the patient that the air thus medicated is yoke is then brought down so that the cloth is held between the two yokes 19-20 and forms a bowl upon which the chloroformy is sprinkled. The bowl is then swung at the pivot 17 and held by friction in said joint at any desired proximity to the face of the patient.
That I claim 'is:-
1. In a device of the kind described, a head gear adapted to be secured on a persons head and having at its front a depending arm, two yokes pivotally clamped on the end of said arm and adapted to hold a'cloth pinched between them, one of the yokes having arched wires by which to form the cloth into a bowl, a special arm detachably secured on the pivot with the yokes, and a perforated box detachably held on the special arm and adapted to hold a medicated element.
2. In a device of the kind described, a head gear comprising a metal band adapted to go about the front and sides of the head, a cushion detachably secured aty the inner side of the band and having at its rearward ends means to be secured across the back of the head, an arch extending from side to side over the top of the head and having its ends pivotally secured to the band, and a curved bar adjustably held to the middle of the arch and extending down the front of the head, and having a vertically slidable 3. The structure specified in claim 2, said connection with the front part of the band, curved front bar having a pivot joint above the sldahle portion of said bar having its the band, to enable lateral adjustment of 10 front end extended forwardly and downthe part holding the medicated element. Wardly and adjustably attached to the part In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
of the device carrying the anesthetics or other medicated element. WILFRED J. JANDRON.
