a citizen of the United States, residing at I Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts,'have lnvented certain 7 new and useful Improvements in Actuating Means for F uel-Injector Plungers; and I do' hereby declare the fo-llowingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the nventlon, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. v a This invention relates to improvements 1n actuating means for the plunger of a valve .for' injecting fuel charges into the cylinder of an internal combustion engine, and its primary object is the provision of novel means of this type which shall be capable of adjustment to enable the size of the fuel. charges injected into the cylinder of the en- .gine to be varied-and controlled-at will.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the constructlon, combination and arrangement of arts hereinafter fully described and cla1med, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:'

vided with an annular groove 45 for the reception of the fork 46 of an operating actuating lever 47, is adapted by its longitudinal adjustment to vary the stroke of the plunger, and the concentric portion a of the tapered sleeve is adapted to maintain the plunger in its closed position. Instead of providing a tapered cam, a stepped construction of cam maybe used aswi'll be readily understood.
During a portionofeach revolution of the j cam the end40 of the reciprocatory rod or member 3'? will move into the, longitudinal groove 44 thereby causing spring of the plunger to actuate thelatter and open the injector valve,- and as the conical cam tapers in circumference, the longitudinal groove 44 will be correspondingly tapered and the degree of the opening and closing movements of the plunger will vary with the position of the cam.
The shaft 42 is driven from the crank shaft v 49 of the engine, and any suitable means,
not shown, may be employed for establishing plunger outwardly, a link rod,vmeans p-ivota driving connection between these shafts.
The inward movement of the reciprocatorymember 37 is limited by a nut 5a mounted on a threaded portion 55 of the reciprocatory member 37. The guide 39 is of tubular form, as shown, but the same may of coursebe varied in construction.

1. Actuatingmeans for the plunger of a valve for injecting fuel charges into the cylinder of an internal combustion engine, comprising a rocker arm engaging the plunger and adapted to move the plunger inwardly, 1
