Be it known that I, NORMAN ELLIOTT, a

citizen of the United States, 'residing at Cleveland in the county of uyahoga and State of hio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lamps for Veblcles, of which the following is a .full, clear and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. 7

This invention relates to' lamps for vehicles (such as automobiles) and has for its which will be capable of operating efiicientlynot only as a tail lamp, but as a warning lamp to ind1- cate to others the stopping of the vehicle or the checking of the speed thereof, as by the application of the brakes thereto. A further and more limited obj ect of the invention is to improve and simphfy the construction and operation of lampsof this character.

The lower portion of the pane is shown as provided wlth a convex lens section 4, in

order to provide with the bulb 12 an efficient tail light. Where such convex lens is employed, the portion of the pane below the .part1t1on 8 and surrounding the said lens may be opaque.

the lamp to By reason (if the construction and arrangement of parts shown and described herein, I have produced a lamp which is capable of operating in a most satisfactory manner for the double'pu ose of: auto matically illuminating or disp aying a warning signal as wellas operating as an efiicient tail lamp. Furthermore, I have accomplished this result in and through a construction and arrangement of parts whioh result production.

By making the lens 4 a unitary part of the pane .3, a single clamping device sufiices for the. cover for both the warning signal compartment and the taillight compartment of the lamp. The partition 8 preferably in simplicity of construction and economy of of the casing, said pane having a fiat or plane portion covering one of said compartments and abutting against said partition and having on such fiat or plane portion a Warning signal on one side of the partition and on the opposite side a lens for a tail llght, and a bulb for each compartment.
