FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, inthe county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IVashing-Machine Heaters, of whichthe following is a specification.. i l

My invention relates to a washing Vmachine heater. l

It is oftentimes desirable to have a clothes washing machine self-heated, as by means of a gas heater, and my invention provides a desirable,isimple and commercially satisfactory washing machine and heater combination in which the heater is an attachment applicable to, and removable from, the washing machine structure without change in the latter.

' Among the objectsV of my invention are to provide a simple, efficient heater, of the gasburning type,advantageous means for effecting connection between the heater and the washing machine, and satisfactory provision forL vensealing the washing machine casing and burner shell for protection of the washingmachineand its operator.. This formj of lsuspension is very desirable in that with wone element of the suspension structure slightly resilient,

adequate compensation for expansion and Acontraction under the heating and cooling action necessary to be met 1n the use of such tudinaledges of the side walls cannot well be maintained in mere contact with the long stretch of shell without;` liability to Suche leakagev of the products of combustion as will damage the finish of the casing and be most annoying and Vdangerous to the operatOr. Therefore I make provision for sealing the edges of the shell to the casing with a suitable heat-resisting material such as asbestos-cement. or putty. To this end I provide along the edge of the shell a lip 28, shaped to have its free edge out of con tact with the casing and only its elbow or inner bend in substantial contact with the latter, this lip being concaved between the elbow and its free end to form a shallow channel in which the cement will be retained. The cement body 29 will be plastered in after the shell has been connected by means of the hangers to the frame.

While I have herein described in considerable detail aspeciiic embodiment of my invention, some of the details of lwhich I may particularly claim for their advantages as reiinements, it will be understood that many changes in the particulars of construction and arrangement may be made without departure from the spirit of my invention within the scope of the appended claims.

YVhat I claim is: l

l. The combination of a washing machine frame having a casing and a supporting frame including end-members and parts inwardly projecting/therefrom above ,the bottom level of the casing; a burner-shell having an orifice to conform to the bottom of thecasing, and variable-tension hangers extending upwardly from engagement with the shell into engagement with said projecting parts of the frame to press the shellorifice snugly against the casing-bottom. l

2. The combination of a washing machine frame having a casingv and a supporting fra-me including end-members and parts inwardlyrprojecting therefrom above thebottom-level of the casing; a burner-shell having an orifice to conform to the bottom of the casing, and variable-tension hangers extending upwardly and diverging laterally from engagement with the shell into engagement with said projecting parts of the frame to press the shell-orice snugly against the casing-bottom.
