Be it known that I, VVILLiAM I'IQING, a citizen of theUnited States, residlng at l\.lernphis in the county of Shelby and State I of Tennessee, have invented certam new and useful Improvements in Automobile-Hoods, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hoods for motor vehicles and has for an object to provlde a hood presentingnew and improved features of stability, convenience/and'eflic1ency.- The principal object of my invention is to provide a hood having side closures which may be opened concurrently at both sides and will remain in stable open pos tion, i A further object of my invention is to provide such side closures with means for keeping dust out ofthe space under the hood and with means for regulating the ventilation of the same. 7

The sheet 10 is bent downwardly from a central horizontal plaln band 11 upon opposite sides, as indicated at 12 and again bent at 13 to form an incllned band 14. Within the hood, slides 28 are attached to the leaves 20 and 22, by means of slots29 formed in such plates, engaging over threaded pins 30 with any convenient and appropriate form of' securing the device as Winged nuts 31. Y i .i

The. slides 28 are provided with circular openings 32 corresponding substantially to the openings 26 and properly spaced and positioned to register with such openings 7 when the slide 28 is moved to its limit in one directionand to close the openings 26 when moved to. its limit in the opposite di'- rection, bothlimits of movement being indicated in dotted lines at Fig. 2. The slide 28 is adjusted relative to the louver openings forthe purpose of varying the degree of ventilation provided for the contained parts and ordinarily in accordance with temperature' conditions. As such changes in the position of the slide are'made only occasiom ally the position of the controllin means within the hood, although slight y more difficult of access, is unobjectionable and such adjusting means are thereby hidden from view.

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is a 1. A. vehicle hood comprising a stationary central sheet, a flat closure leaf pivotedto and depending from the edge of the central sheet, a second fiat closure leaf pi-votedto and depending from the lower edge of the first mentioned closure leaf, said leaves being held by gravity in contact with each other and with the central sheet when the hood is opened, substantially as set forth.

A; vehicle hood comprising, a central stationary top bent on a plurality of longitudinal lines to form reinforcing ribs with flat faces separated thereby, a closure leaf hinged to and depending from the edge of the sheet, a second closureleafhinged to the first and adapted to rest against the first in open position, and the first leaf adapted to rest against the lowermost of said flat faces, substantially as set forth.

A vehicle hood comprising a central stationary sheet having its outer edges bent to form fiat inclined portions, a hinged closure depending therefrom and having outwardly extending louvers spaced from the edgetopermit said closure to lie flat against said inclined portion in open position and a second closure leafhinged to the first and having outwardly extending louvers and adapted to lie flat against the first leaf when in open position, substantially as set forth.
