This invention pertains to improvements in separable fasteners of the type wherein a stud member is adapted-to engage with a socket member carrying stud-engaging jaw means. I
rlhe preferred form of my invention shown in .the drawings of the present application provides a fastener in which the tendency to become disengaged vunder lateral strain is minimized, while at the Vsame time permitting the .facile disengagement of the parts when Separating strain is eX- erted in any direction which does not provide a substantial resultant force exerted in a lateral direction.

I have found in practice that where theV form of fastener shown in my, copending application above referred to is correctly applied to the material, so that the line .of

' ln the preferred form of my invention shown inthe drawings, 6 represents a piece of fabric to which a stud 7 is secured, and 8 represents a 'piece of fabric to which a socket 9 is secured. rEhe stud 7 may be of usual form providing a head, a neck and an attaching portion which can be sewed to the goods, rlhe socket also may be adapted to be sewn to the goods in any usual manner. rlhe socket shown inthe drawings provides at one side a disk having an aperture there through which lis preferably notched at opposite ends, as shown in my copending application above referred to, and having spring means herein typified by the V-shaped spring l() p-roviding two spring portions adjacent .the aperture which are at an angle to a line passed through the center of a notch and the center of the aperture. rlhe notches are preferably so proportioned that the neck of the stud cannot touch the marginal portion of the notch at the end thereof, the bearing being at the side of the notch and the notches being proportioned so that the neck of the stud cannot enter into the notch a sufficient distance to oppose substantial strain exerted on stud and socket to separate them, which strain is ata substantial angle from any angle which is likely to result from lateral strain on the fabric to which the stud and'socket are applied.

Vhile l have shown and described a preferred form of one embodiment of my invention, it will be yunderstood that changes involving omission, substitution, alteration and reversal of parts, and even changes in the mode of operation, may be made without departing from the scope of my invention, which is best defined in the following claims.
Claims:
l. A fastener comprising, in combination, a stud having a head and a neck, and a socket providing at one side thereof a studreceiving aperture providing a relatively shallow notch at at least one side-thereof, said socket having a spring portionintersecting at ieast' one side of said aperture at an angle relative to a line passing through the center of the aperture and the center of the notch.
