BEE-SMOKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2, 1921.
Application filed .Tune 8, 1920. Serial No. 387,327.
To all fio/1.0m t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, ORvILLE lV. SHRADER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boaz. in the county of Marshall and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful improvements in Bee-Smokers, of which the following is specification.
The object of the invention is to provide an etlicient and simple construction of apparatus for smoking beesunder such conditions as to provide for varying the temperature of -the smoke to suit the conditions under which the operation is being conducted, the means for securing such modilication or variation being within the convenient control of the operator, and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts, of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 17 is a side view partly in section of an apparatus embodying the invention.
F ig. 2, is a transverse sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The device consists essentially ofthe furnace or lire box 10, which as illustrated may be of cylindrical form having a grate 11 and an outlet or discharge nozzle 12 through which the smoke may be ejected, and a draft apparatus consisting of a collapsible bellows 13 having communication with said furnace or lire box, through the conductor tubes 14: and 15 respectively located near the top and beneath the plane of the grate 11 of the furnace or lire box, said conductors being provided respectively with cut-off slides or valves 16 and 17 either of which may be closed to enable theoperator to discharge a blast of air either through the body of the fire on the grate or through the' top of dense distribution of smoke at a lower temf perature is sulhcient for the purpose in view, the positions of the slide valves may be reversed to cause a discharge of air from the bellows through the upper conductor 14 and thence through the outlet 12.
The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A bee smoker having a fire box or furnace provided with a terminally disposed spout or outlet, a fuel supporting grate, a collapsible bellows, conductors connecting the interior of the bellows with the fire box or furnace respectively above and below the plane of the grate, the upper conductor being arranged adjacent to the plane of saidv discharge spout or outlet and independent slide valves for controlling the said conductors.
2. A 'bee smoker having a fire boX or furnace provided with a terminal discharge pipe or outlet and an intermediate fuel supporting grate, and means for introducing an air blast into the furnace and provided with selective control devices whereby the blast may be introduced just below the plane of the discharge pipe or below the plane of the supporting grate.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature.
ORVILLE WV. SHRADER.
