Description

l TpALLANAN. Corner-Pieces for Picture and Other Frames.
NO. 138,611. 'l Patented May 6,1873l fly-2 Wl/zessasnf I i y ,fw f I y A 7d,
UNITED STATES THOMAS GALLANAN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORNER-PIECES FOR PICTURE AND OTHE Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,611, dated May 6, 1873; appli.v
March 15, 1873.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS UALLANAN, of Brooklyn, in lthe county of Kings and State of New York, have invented an Improved Corn er Piece for the Frames of Pictures,Wire Screens for Windows, and for other articles, of which the following is a specication:
This invention consists in a corner piece for the frames of pictures, windowscreens, and the like, composed of a thin web which lits in a saw-kerf niade in the meeting-edges of the frame and anges, which fit, one outside and the other inside, the rails near their junction. By this corner-piece not only are the rails of the frame very securely connected but twisting of the frame itself is prevented.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a view of a corner of a window-screen frame having my corner-piece applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same illustrating the sitnation of thecorner-piece. Fig. 3 is a face view of the corner-piece detached. Fig. 4 is a transverse section thereof taken at the line a: .rin Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a like section taken at the line y y in the same g'ure.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A and B represent the meeting portions of two rails of the window-screen frame. They are of the ordinary form, save that in the end of each there is a kerf or slit made for the reception of the web of the corner-piece. This PATENT O corner-piece consists of a thin inner and outer flan ges b and c e z its side edges. The outer flan countersink or groovein the edge y shown in Fig. 2. These flanges the ends of the web, and are s rails of the frame by screws or The outer flanges of the co `er-piece are hidden from view, and so also y re the inner flanges when a picture or scree is applied to the frame. When desirable, h wever, these inner flanges may also be coun great advantage of this corner iece of lnine is that not onlyiare the rails of l cured together in longitudinal l' rections, but twisting of the fra y The webs of the corner-pieces twisting whatever. Y
What I claim as my invention secure by Letters Patent, is- 3 A corner-piece for the fram window-screens, and the like, mposed of a thin web7 a, and iianges b an 0, extending along the edges of the saine, su stantially as set forth.
and desire to of pictures,
Witnesses z FRED. HAYNES, MICHAEL RYAN.
