Description

F. A. BIN NS. SUPPORTING DEVICE FOR FALSE TEETH.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 18. 1919.
1,385,812. Patented July 26,1921.
FREI'LT'LT'LE UNITED {STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRE'D A. BINNS, OF ADDISON, MICHIGAN.
S'UPPORTITIG DEVICE FOR FALSE TEETH.
To all whom it may concern: i i
Be it known that I, FRED A. "BINNS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Addison, in the county of Lenawee and State ments, such as hornsor the like. It is comparatively difficult for a musician who has false teeth to properly play a wind instrument, owing to the fact that during the playing of the musical instrument the false teeth often drop or become disarranged, interfering with the proper playing of the instrument and it is an object of this invention to provide a device designed for insertion in the mouth of the musician, one at each side to be engaged between the molar teeth of the set of false teeth to properly hold the teeth in place, and permit free use of the tongue and lips, for playing the instrument. g Other objects of the invention will appear infthe following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which drawing:
Figure 1 is an outer side elevation of the supporting device for false teeth.
Fig. 2 is an inner side elevation of the supporting device. 7
Fig. 3 is an edge elevation of the support.
Fig. 4 is a cross section through the support.
Fig. 5 is a section through the support,
showing it in position with respect to a set of false teeth, and
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of a set of false teeth illustrating the position of the im- 1 proved support in respect thereto.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 10 indicates the support as an entirety which is preferably formed of relatively soft rubber or analogous material, so as to allow it to yield under pressure of teeth thereon. The supporting structure 10 includes a carrying portion or plate 11 the outersurface of which is rounded or slightly convex as Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 26 1921, Application filed July 18,
1919. Serial No. 311,693.
shown at 12, for fitting in against the inner side of the cheek of the user. A rib 13 extends laterally from the inner side of the plate 11 equi-distant of the longitudinal edges of the said plate and is provided for seating between the molars at one side of the mouth of an upper and lower set of false teeth as clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing, for preventing the teeth from falling out of the roof of the users mouth during the playing of a musical instrument of the wind type or where it is necessary to maintain the teeth in spaced relation for any period of time. A forward end of the rib 13 is cut away on an angle as shown at 14:, to permit the free use of the users tongue. The plate 11 has its edges rounded and curving inwardly toward the rib 13 at their forward edges as shown at. 15. In using the device,
%hanges in details may be made without departing from the spirit of this invention,
but:
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a cheek-engaging plate formed of resilient material and having its cheek-engaging surface convex,ia resilient tooth-engaging rib extending laterally from the side of the plate opposite said convex side and intermediate the edges of the plate, one end of said rib being cut at an angle with respect to the face of the cheek engaging plate.
2. A device for holding false teeth in spaced relation comprising a cheek-engaging plate formed of resilient material and having its outer surface convex, a resilient toothengaging rib extending laterally from one side of the plate and terminating at the side edges of the plate, the outer edge of said rib being inclined and having one end cut at an angle with respect to the face of the cheek engaging plate.
3. In a device for supporting a set of false teeth in the mouth of the user, a pair of spaced plates arranged for engagement with the lower surface of an upper set of false teeth whereby falling movement of the upper set is prevented, said plates being arranged in spaced relation to each other to define an opening therebetwcen, as and for the purpose specified.
i. In a device for supporting a set of false teeth, a pair of plates arranged between the upper and lower sets of false teeth for preventing the displacement of the sets of false teeth, the plates being arranged at opposite points to define an opening therebetween, each of said plates including a teeth-engaging portion and an angular tooth-engaging portion.
