Be it known that l, Gnoncn H. PALLADY, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Redondo Beach, in the county oi Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Life-Preservers; and l do declare the tollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,

rlhis invention relates generally to lite preservers, and particularly to that type of life preservers which are designed to be worn around the neck o a person. Hence, the invention may be properly called a lite collar.

@ne object of the invention is to provide a life preserver which is permanently lled with air so that it is at a" use. i

Another object ont the invention is to pro vide a collar type lite preserver provided with means whereby it inay be quickly and easily fastened around the noch of a person, or removed therefrom.

A further object of the invention is to provide a life preserver in which the air is contained in a plurality oni independent containers inclosed one within the other so that if the inner container becomes puncn tured for some reason or the other, the con-1 tainer surrounding'it will prevent the air 'from the inner container from escaping and will prevent the lite saver as a whole troni becoming ino erativea A still turt er object ont the invention is to generally improve upon devices ot this class by the provision of a comparatively simple, strong, durable and inexpensive con struction, one which will be efficient and reliable in operation, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of various details oit construction, and the combination and aru rangement ot parts as are hereinafter fully described and claimed.

lill@ side when it is placed upon the neck of a person, or removed therefrom. After the device is put in place, the fastening devices 10 and 11 are snapped to ether, and since the device is of such size t at it snugly fits around the neck of theA wearer, it will retain this position.

The amount of air contained in the tubes or cylinders 1 and 2 is sufficient of itself to float the body of a person, and additional protection is adorded by the* volume of air contained in the flexible rubber tube 5. It is preferable to inflate this tube 5 with air by means of an air pump, so that the air contained therein will be under pressure in order that the tube 5 will not be collapsed when submerged in water.

By having the tubes or cylinders l and 2 filled with air and sealed tight, and disposed in the flexible rubber tu also filled with air, should one or both of the tubes 1 and 2 become punctured, the tube 5 will prevent the air from escaping, and thus the life preserver as a whole will not be rendered inoperative.

The device is made comfortable to the wearer by means of the padding 3 which is placed around the tubes 1 and 2. From the fore oing description, taken in connection with t e accompanying drawing, the construction, use, and advantages lof the invention will be readily understood without a more extended explanation.

Various changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction, may be resorted to lwithout departing from the spirit and principle of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.

I claim;

1. A device of the class described comprising a sealed airicontainer constituting a sustaining element, a tube mcloslng said container, said tube being independently of said container, and a waterproof covering surrounding said tube.v

2. A device of' the class described comprising a pair of sealed air containers. constituting sustainingeelements for floating a persons body, a tu inclosmg sald containe 5 which is inflated with air y ers, said tube being inflated with air independently of said containers, and a waterproof covering surrounding said tube.

3. A device of the class described comprising-a pair of curved rigid air containers constituting sustaining elements,.a U-shaped tube surrounding said containers, said tube being inflated with air independently of said containers, and a U-shaped covering surrounding said tube.

4. A device of the class described comprising a pair of curved rigid air containers constituting sustaining elements, padding of softmaterial surrounding said containers, a U-shaped tube inclosing said containers, said tube being inflated with air independently of said containers, and a U-shaped covering surrounding said tube. p

5. A device of the class described comprising a pair of curved rigid air containers arranged side by side with their inner ends d1sposed adjacent each other, padding surl rounding said containers, a considera-ble' mass of said padding being disposed between the adjacent ends of said containers, a U-shaped tube inclosing said containers and said padding,

said tube being inflated with air independently of said contamers, a U-shaped covering surrounding said tube, and separable means for fastening the ends of said covering together, the mass of padding between the adjacent ends of said containers permitting the opposite side portions of' the device to e spread while being placed upon or removed from a persons neck.

6. A device of the class described including a sealed air-tight tube constituting a. sustaining element and inclosed in a larger sealed airtight inflated tube, and a snapfastener to secure the device around the neck of thev user. l
