. IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-FILLING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,534, dated May 6, 1873; application filed July 11, 1872.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that we, FREDERICK ScHLIoD; and ADRIAN FEYiLof the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Bottle-Filling Apparatus, and the following is declared to be a correct description of the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a means for tillin g a number of bottles at once with beer or similar liquids. The material to be bottled is generally contained in open tanks or vats, and into `this the uncorked' bottle is inserted by hand, so as to allow the liquid to iill the bottle. It is then removed for oorking. As but three or four bottles can be handled in this Way at once the operation consumes considerable time when a large number 0f bottles are to be filled. Our invention consists in a frame r stand for holding a number of bottles so that they can all be inserted in the tank at once for filling, and the bottles can be readily removed from the frames and replaced by empty ones, and the filling operation In the drawing, Figure lis a plan, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section, of Vsaid apparatus.
The frame is made bf strips of metal Athat will not corrode by the action of the. liquid. The strips a b and cross-strip o form the bottom. These strips are bent up to form the sides, and are riveted at their ends to the strip e are provided at the ends of the frame for lifting it. The bottles f are placed in this frame in an upright position, and to prevent their oating when first inserted into the liquid We provide the Wire frame i for holding the bottles down. This is placed'over the bottles and rests upon their necks, and is just above the tops of the handles e. The divisions of the frame t' being smaller than the diameter of the bottles the frame t is held in a convenient position, so that as the handles are grasped by the hands the thumb can be placed upon the frainez' to prevent the bottles lifting, and the frame and bottles can then be inserted into the liquid to be bottled, and held there until the bottles are full.` When the bottles are full they are lifted out of the tank, the Wire frame t' removed, and the bottles taken out and empty Vones put in. The frame i is then replaced and the filling operation proceeds rapidly.
The frame may be made of a size to hold any desired number of bottles. We have shown a frame containing six, but, generally, two dozen is the most convenient number.
We claim as our invention- A bottle-filling apparatus, consisting of a` Witnesses:
