UNITED STATES PATENT- OFFICE.
FRIEDRICH SCHERMER, OF MAINZ, GERMANY.
MACHINE FOR CUTTING BACON AND THE LIKE INTO THIN SLIGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 12, 1921.
Application filed July 8, 1920. Serial No. 395,939.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH SCHERMER, a citizen of the German Republic, and residing at Mainz, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Cutting Bacon and the like into Thin Slices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved machine for cutting bacon and the like into thin slices, which, over machines of similar type, has the advantage that the cutting-blades of the same move alternately in opposite directions to one another, while each cuttingblade runs continuously in one and the same direction.
In the annexed drawing:
Figures 1, 2 and 3 are respectively a frontview, a plan-view, and an edge-view, of the improved machine.
The machine comprises a plurality of step-pulleys a, which are loosely mounted on a common shaft 6 on one side of the machine. The difi'erence between the radii of the disks corresponds to the thickness of slices to be out. On the other side of the machine, corresponding step-pulleys c of same diameter are arranged, which are, however, alternately mounted on two shafts d and 0. Both shafts are driven from a common spur-wheel g, which gears with two toothed-wheels f and By these means, the steel-ribbons i guided over said step-pulleys are moved alternately in opposite directions to one another, while each cutting-blade runs continuously in one and the same direction.
The bacon orthe like to be cut is moved h, one on each shaft.v
, through the cutting-blades i by means of a table Z with handles is. For this purpose, the table can be moved transversely to the cutting-blades in dovetail guides m in either direction. The side walls of said table are recessedat n for a passage of the cuttingblades therethrough. 7
Thus, the bacon can be cut into slices by the cutting-blades acting thereon in opposite directions, whereby a non-uniform cutting or tearin of the bacon is avoided.
What claim, is:
A machine for cutting bacon and the like into thin slices, comprising in combination, a shaft on one side of the machine, a plurality of step-pulleys loosely mounted on said shaft, two shafts on the other side of the machine, a plurality of step-pulleys corresponding to the former and mounted alternately on said two shafts, a toothed wheel on each of said two shafts, a common driving-spur-wheel in gear with said toothed wheels, steel-ribbons forming cutting-blades guided over said step-pulleys and thus alternately movable in opposite directions, a table having lateral recesses with which it is mounted over said steel-ribbons and movable in transverse direction to the latter, and dovetail guides for the reception of said table, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRIEDRICH SOHERMER. Witnesses:
