DINING-SERVICE AE3?J?-.RATUS.
nastier.
Application filed. March 25, 18-21. Serial No.
To ail whom it may concern:
Be it known that HARRY S. i'hinnN- nnno, a citizen oi? the United tit s. residing at Danville, in the county o'r .ilttsylvania and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dining-Service itipparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and uset'ul improvements in dining service apparatus and particularly has for its object to provide an improvement in the apparatus which forms the subject matter of my copending application Serial No. 410,208, filed September 1%, 1920.
in that application, i have disclosed a dining service apparatus which provides means whereby the patron may be served without empioying waiters and without requiring the patron to leave his seat at the table or counter, the apparatus einhodying means whereby the order card of the patron may he delivered to the kitchen and the order conveyed to the patron from the kitchen and the soiled dishes returned to the kitchen, the cooks duplicate check of the order being delivered to the cashiers desk, all without the necessity of employing waiters or servants for the purpose.
In the apparatus disclosed in my previous application. it was necessary for the patron to stop and start the conveyers which brought the trays from the kitchen to the patrons table in order to conveniently remove the tray from the conveyer.
My present invention has for its object to provide a modification of that system whereby it the patron fails to stop the conveyer when the tray arrives at its station, the tray will nevertheless be arrested at the station with which. it is designed to e06 crate and any other trays coming along hehind it for stations in front oi it, will be arrested until the first stopped tray has been removed.
Another object of the present invention is to provide trays of such design that flap doors be used to close the conveyer passage between the dining room and kitchen, when no trays are passing, the trays being provided with guard means so that the flap door will not break or interfere with the dishes on the tray.
The invention also resides in those novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all of which will be Specification of Letters Patent. jfgg, {@nijgfl J lly 12 41 Q nit/ell first fully described and then be pointed out in the appended ence being had to ings in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view oi a portion oi my apparatus iilustrating the pres ent improvements. f
Fig. 2 is a. diagrammatic elevation showing the manner in which the trays are conveyed and stopped at the particular station desired.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of the same.
in the dri'twings in which like numerals and oi? re'i erence indicate like parts in all of the figures, 2 designates the tahlc. (3 the stepped up portion of the table on which the upper part of the endless conveyer belts rest to sustain the load and 8 indicates toe suitable guide rollers for tr. return fol t the convever 7. l2 designates the sid speci icaliy ims, referthe accompa; ing drawo c walls which project up from the table at the back of the conveyers and an inclosure for the check conveyers J dawn) and a stop for the return conveyor on which the trays are returned to the kitchen.
fill of the foregoing parts may he of the same construction as shown in my previous application referred to, except that the conveyer 7 is a two part or divided conveyer instead of a. one piece conveyor.
The two part or divided conveyor 7 has its parts separated to pass stops 48, which are at each table place 2, the stops being of different elevations progressively iii-creasing in height from the table station nearest the kitchen toward the table station farthest from the kitchen.
The trays 49, there being one for each table station, are preferably mounted 011 elevating members or skids 50 so as to elevate the trays proper a predetermined distance above the belts 7 to allow for the provision of stoos 51 on the under side of the trays, the stops 51 projecting down only far enough to engage the particular stop 48 at the place where the particular tray is to be stopped, the longest projection 51 of a tray would he on the tray designed to stop at the first tabie place counting from the kitchen, while the shortest stop 51 would he on the tray designed to go the farthest distant from the kitchen K.
The trays may also he provided with suitable table numbers corresponding to the table place where the patron sits so that in filling the trays in the kitchen, the kitchen attendant may know which tray to fill tor the particular patron.
The trays are also provided with bridge members which may serve as handles and also function to prevent the flap doors 52 in the wall 53 between the kitchen and dining room from breaking the dishes in the tray when the tray passes the opening.
If desired, partitions 5% may be provided between patrons table places.
While I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, nevertheless it is quite obvious that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims and l. do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise details of construction shown and described.
lVhat I claim is: i
l. in apparatus of the class described wherein are provided a dining room and a kitchen, a table in the dining room and conveyors for bringing the trays of food from the kitchen to the table; of stop devices on the table and trays for engaging one another to arrest the travel of a tray at the particular station where the tray is intended to be delivered.
2. In apparatus of the class described wherein are provided a dining room and a kitchen, a table in the dining room and conveyors for bringing the trays of food from the kitchen to the table; fixed stop devices on the table projecting into the path of movement of the trays, the stop devices being successively longer station toward the last table station, and stop devices on the several trays designed to engage particular ones the fixed stop devices to arrest the progress 01": the trays.
in appa 'atus oil? the class described from the lirst table wherein are provided a dining; room and a kitchen, a table in the dining room and'com veyers for bringing the trays of food from the kitchen to the table; said trays having bridge members, a. *all between tae dining room and kitchen having a tlap door covering an opening through which said conveyers and trays pass, said bridge members being designed to protect the contents of the trays in passing the flap door.
i. In apparatus of the class described, the
combination with a divided convey er, fixedstop members adapted to project between the adjacent edges of the divided conveyor, trays adapted to be carried by said conveyers and fixed stopmembers on the trays designed to engage certain oi: the fixed stop members adjacent to the conveyors to arrest particular trays at particular places.
in apparatus or the class described, a tray comprising a; body constituting a tray proper, devices on the underside of the tray proper forelevating the tray proper a predetermined distance and a bridge member on the top of the tray proper for the purposes specified.
