WOODEN. HEEL Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 112, 11921.
Application filed October 22, 1919. Serial No. 332,397.
Improvements in Wooden Heels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in wooden heels, particularly designed for ladies shoes, and is directed to the provi- 'sion of means whereby the heel is prevented from splitting in the application of the top lift thereto.
erable proportion of instances, split by the means used for securing the top lift in place, and the present invention is designed to prevent this liability. To secure the result noted, a portion of the heel, at the top-lift seat, is cut off from the heel proper, and an independent seat applied corresponding in dimensions to the portion removed. This seat is of a material readily permitting the application of the securing means for the top lift but not subject to splitting or breaking in such application, as for instance, leather.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the improved heel as completed in accordance with the preferred details of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a view of the heel-plate, or top lift.
Fig. 3 is a view of the bottom-section.
Fig. 4 is a perspective of the top lift.
Fig. 5 is a view of the heel post.
The heel 1 is of the usual construction and contour, except that for the purposes of the present invention, a portion of the lower end thereof is cut ofi', thus reducing the height of the wooden heel proper.
A post 2 of wood is provided through the heel, this post being of the full length of the wooden heel, including the portion removed. This provides a section 3 of such post projecting below the end of the wooden heel as provided in this invention.
A bottom section 4 is secured to the end of the wooden heel, this bottom section corresponding in contour and sectional dimenslons that portion of the wooden heel removed. This bottom section is preferably Ordinarily the wooden heel is, in a consid-- of leather, and of course completes the heel in height to equal the usual wooden portion of such heels as ordinarilv constructed. The bottom section is cemented or otherwise secured in place, and is appropriately formed, with an opening to receive the projecting portion of the post 2.
The top lift 5 is of usual construction, being usually of leather or rubber, and is provided with a heel plate 6 to bear upon the heel bottom section 4. The top lift is secured in place by screws or nails 7, one
such fastening constituting the main fastening and taking into the lower end of the post.
The bottom section 4 constitutes the essential feature of the present invention, and is designed to prevent the liability of the wooden portion of the heel being split in the application of the fastening means for the top-lift. Of course the heel so completed will be finished in the usual manner, as for instance, by a covering material in accordance with the material of the shoe.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A heel having the major portion thereof made of wood and provided with. an aperture extending through said wooden portion, a bottom wooden section attached to the heel, a post provided with an interiorly threaded end inserted in the aperture leaving the threaded end extended below the bottom of said wooden portion and means to attach a lift to the post and bottom section.
2. A solid wooden heel comprising a major wooden portion, a wooden post associated therewith, a separate bottom attached to said post and the bottom of the major portion of the heel and means to attach a lift to the post.
3. A solid wooden heel, a post having a threaded end associated therewith and extending below the bottom of the heel, a bot tom section attached th the bottom of the heel, a metallic plate attached to said section, and means to attach a lift to the post leaving the metallic plate and bottom section interposed between the lift and bottom of the heel.
4. A solid wooden heel, a wooden post associated therewith, a bottom section, a heel plate and means attached to the post to secure a. lift to the bottom section leaving the plate and said section interposed between to secure a lift to the wooden block and post the bottom of the heel and lift. to the heel as described and set forth;
5. A solid, wooden heel, a wooden post In testimony whereof we afiix our signa- 10 inserted in an aperture provided in said heel tures.
