Z '0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR M. OQUINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Miami, in the county of Dade and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Sizer and Grader, (Case B,) of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this applicatibn is adapted to be employed for sizing fruit and the like, and one object of the invention is to provide novel means whereby the rollers may be adjusted, from one end of the machine, to vary the size of the grading openings, it being pos-, sible to adjust any sizing roller, independently of the other sizing rollers.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combinae tion and arrangement .of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in top plan, a device constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being omitted, and the view being to a considerable extent diagrammatic; Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic side elevation; Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section; Fig. 4 is an elevation showing the means whereby certain of the sprocket wheels are locked to one of the shafts; Fig. 5 is a section of the device disclosed in Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is. a side elevation showing the means whereby the rollers are mounted and controlled; Fig. 7 is a cross section showin the structure depicted in Fig 6; and ig. 8 is a diagrammatic top plan showing a slight modification in the invention.
The machine forming the subject matter of this application resembles in many particulars, the machine shown in-my co-pending application for Letters Patent on a sizer and grader, filed the thirtieth day of July, 1920, Serial No. 1 400,057. The description in this present case may, therefore, be shortened somewhat. v

of the chains move. "Main rollers 8 are journaled at 9 on the chains 6. The journaling elements 9 constitute pivots on which frames 10 are adapted to swing vertically, the frames carrying auxiliary rollers 11 adapted to traverse a track comprising angle members 12 on the beams 7. The numeral 14 denotes vertically adjustable tracks along which the auxiliary rollers 11 move. Screws 15 are connected with the outer ends of each track 14 and are journaled in brackets 16 on the frame 1. The screws are threaded intoworm wheels 17 supported by the brackets, shafts 18 being journaled on the frame, the shafts 18 being provided with worms 19 cooperating with the worm wheels 17.
The construction above described is set forth in my co-pending application above alluded to. Obviously, when the shafts 18 are rotated, the worms 19 will rotate the worm wheels 17 and the screws 15 will be raised or lowered, the tracks 14 being raised or lowered accordingly, each track 14 being raised or'lowered at both of its ends.
The characteristic feature of this present application is the provision of means whereby the tracks or members 14 may be adjusted from a remote point, any of said members being capable of local adjustment, and it being possible to adjust all of said members simultaneously.
With this end in view, a shaft 21 is journaled in bearings 39 on one end of the frame 1. Sprocket wheels 22 are mounted on the shaft 20, there being sprocket wheels 23 on the ends of each shaft 18. Sprocket chains 24 extend between the sprocketwheels 22 and the sprocket wheels 23. Any suitable means may be provided whereby each sprocket wheel 22 may be coupled to the shaft 20. In the present embodiment of the invention, but not of necessity, each sprocket wheel 22 is supplied, with a lateral bracket 25 wherein a latch 26 is vertically movable, the latch being constrained by a spring 30 to engage in a key way 27 in the shaft 20. The latch 26 is supplied with a lateral pin 28, adapted to be received in a recess 29 in the hub of the sprocket wheel 22 when the latch is engaged with the key way 27. The latch 26, however, may be retracted, against the action of the spring 30, and be rotated, so that the pin 28 will rest on the periphery of the hub of the sprocketwheel, to hold the latch 26'retracted, as shown in the left hand portion of Fig. 5. Again, it should be re- 'called' that. the specific means shown, for connecting the sprocket vwheel 22 to the shaft 20, is a useful but not mandatory construction.
All of the sprocket wheels 22 may be coupled to the shaft 20, and when the shaft 20 is rotated by the crank 21 or its equiva-- lent, the sprocket chains 24 and the s rocket wheels '23 will impart rotation to al of the shafts 18 simultaneously, all of the members 14 being raised or lowered at once. Any pair of sprocket wheels 22, or more than one pair of sprocket wheels, may be uncoupled from the shaft 20 and then that pair, or those pairs of sprocket wheels will not be rotated when the shaft 2O is rotated, the
corresponding members 14 remainin in the POSltlOIlS which they have assume whlle constructed that the members 14 may be adjusted simultaneously or in groups, it being possible to adjust any of the said members from a remote point, and to adjust any of said members locally.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings, the chains 24 are shown as bein located outside of the frame, whereas, in t e modification shown in,
Fig. 8, the chains are located within the contour of the frame. ,In Fig. 8, parts hereinbefore described have been designated by numerals previously used, with the suflix a.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a sizer and grader, a track comprising a plurality of members movable for adjustment; a slzin supported by sai members; and means for adjusting said members simultaneously.
