MALONEY, a i ctizeneof" the United States, Iresiding at `vScranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented `new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors and Strops, of which the following is a speciicatio This invention relates to safety razors and it has more particular reference to that type of device which .is combined with a fholder or casingincluding a mirror where. by the progress of the Shave can be 'conveniently observed..

The main object of my invention is to pro-v vide a combined safety-razor, Sharpener and an unbreakable mirror which when not in use are neatly and compactly housed in a small case that can be conveniently carried, in the vest pocket.

Another object is to provide a device of the nature specified which is sanitary inA every respect.

Still further this invention,l comprehends many new and useful features or objects re-` lating to the blade holder, means for storing a supply of new blades, the means for holding the blade in uposition relative to its holder, andthe means for stropping or sharpeningthe blade.

With the.VV foregoing objects inview my invention consists essentially in the novel features of construction, combinations; and

Longitudinally of one side of the casing or box 10 and 'revolubly mounted inbear- .ings 15 is a shaft or spindle 16-on which 1s securely fixed a Stropping roller 17 of any `appropriate material, and it is to be noted that the shaft 16 is extended at one end to project beyond an inner wall or end piece 18 of the casing or 'box 10. Slidably mounted on the outer orprojecting `-end wof the shaft or spindle 16 and connected thereto and slot connection 19 is a sleeve 2() which carries an arm 21 to the free end whereof is hinged at 22 a handle 23,. Thus it will be seen on reference to the dotted `lines in Fig. 1 that when the Sleeve 20- Aarm 21-and handle 23 are not `extended for use they can be collapsed or folded compactly down into the cellular portion 24 end flange or lip 25 ofthe lid or cover 11.

Hinged to the upper edge of the aforesaid end wall `18, at 26 is aplateor leaf 27 andv below this plate or leaf are provided spaced spring tongues 28 between w ichf and said plateor leaf 27 are storedl a supply of blades 29, depending anges or lips 30 preventing their accidental displacement. This plate or leaf 27 is also prov1ded on itsq upper end edge remote from the hinge 26 `with a spring vrtonguel which grips the adjoinin end wall of the ,box or casi-ng 10 and maintains said leaf or plate in `closed down positionwhen it is not desired to take out a new vblade 29l for use.

The blade holder 32 consists of a sheet of appropriate material suchas thin metal and it 1s formed or stamped'up with a scallopedy and turned over longitudinal edge 33 which in use constitutes the bearing surface for the cutting edge of the blade 29, and the ends of said holder `32 are somewhat upset or flanged at 34 to constitute retaining means for correspondingly shaped ears on the ends ofthe blade 29. The longitudinal edge 35 remote from the scalloped part 33 is also similarly upset or flanged so that the blade 29 is also effectively prevented from falling free end of said locking member 39 I form va turned over lip 41which is, adapted to be passed over 'and grip a projecting tongue 42 integralA with or attached to the end of the holder 32 remote from therpivotal stub 36.

When the holderl 32 ist not in use it is compactly and neatly stored away on the upper face of the aforesaid .plate or leaf 27 and is prevented from displacement by spring grips 43 upstanding from the latter, while said holder 32 is provided on its backside with offset flanges44 which can be seated over a laterally projecting T-shaped -projection 45 secured at one of the angular corners of the casing or box 10 in any of the Well known ways. Now `when it is desired to sharpen a blade the holder 32 is turned upside down on the plate ordeaf 27 with the edge of said blade on the roller 17,

In or'der to provide means for renewing the "sharpening or stropping'roller 17, I may make one or both of the bearings 15 integral with a removable member 48 which can bedrawn out whereupon the spindle or shaft 16 can be easily removed and a new roller 17 placed thereon in any of the well known ways, `and 49 indicates a ,spring catch on the'boX 10 for engagement with the flange^ 50 on the cover 11 to lock the device in closed or out of use position.

From fthe foregoing descriptionk the use and operation of my improved, safety razor stropping device will be clearly apparent without further elucidation fand while I have described and shown one practical and preferredembodiment theieof I wish 1t clearly understood that various detail for shaving purposes changes and other combinations thereof may ,beieasily effected without in any way de' 'claim as new' and desire to secure by Let- .ters Patent is 1. A safety razor including a receptacle,

a cover hinged to said receptacle, a blade carrier hinged in said receptacle, sharpen in'g means operably mounted in said receptacle, a mirror carried by the hinged cover, and a blade holder adapted to seat on the blade carrierand to be removably attached to the receptacle when the operation of shaving is to be effected.

2. A safety razor including a box-like casing, a cover hinged to said casing,'a mirror detachably supported in said cover, a` blade carrier hinged iny said casing, a stropping roller revolubly mounted in said casing, collapsible means for operating said stropping roller when desired, a bla-de holder adapted to retain a blade in shaving position therein, said blade holder being adapted toseat in locking engagement on the blade carrier when not in use and arranged for removable attachment on the casing whenpthe operation of shaving is to be effected. l A

3. In a safety razor vcomprising a boxlike casing, a cover hinged to said casing,
