Application filed may 1,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WIILIAM T. KOLVA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vineland, in the county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Deflectors, of which the following is a specificatio i This invention relates to gas burner deflectors and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of. the invention is to provide a deflector in the form of an attachment is provided at its center and at the cone with an openlng which is adapted to be applied to a gas burner for the purpose of concentrating the flame therefrom in order that the flame may -be more directly applied to the central portion of the under side of a cooking utensil which. is placed over the burner.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a deflector of the character stated means whereby air may be led to the flame at the point of concentration thereof and at the inner and outer sides of the flame whereby sufficient oxygen is supplied to the flame at the area of concentration to produce a flame of maximum degree of heat temperature.
With these objects in view the deflector comprises a cone-shaped plate or disk providedat its edge with lugs and at its inner side with radially disposed ribs. The plate the apex of stellaform inshape and the said ribs are disposed between the outer ends of the points of the said opening. c
In the accompanying drawing:
. Figure 1. is a transverse sectional View of a burner with'the deflector applied;
Fig. 2 is a bottom or under plan view of the deflector. Y
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing the flame deflector and concentrator'comprises a circular'disk or'plate 1 WhlCh 1s m the general shape of a flattened'cone. The
plate is rovided at its center and at the apex of the cone with a stellaform opening 2 and the plate is provided at its pen heral edge with spaced ugss3, which are a apted Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 7, i921. 1920. Serial no. 378,048
.to rest upon the top surface of a as shown in Fig. 1 of the 'drawin when the plate is applied to theburner and when the diameter of the burner is sufliciently great to receive the lugs thereon.
The plate 1 is provided at its under side with radially disposed ribs 4 which extend inwardly from the periphery of the plate and lie in lines midway between the outer points of the. stellaform opening 2 and which at their inner ends terminate in circular alinement with the outer ends of the outer points of the said opening. When the plate is applied to a gas burner which is convexed at its upper surface the ribs 4 will engage the upper surface of the burner and hold the under surface of the plate 1 spaced from the burner whereby air may pass from the exterior between the burner and the plate and feed the flame which is concentrated and burning at the stellaform opening in the plate.
From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that a flame concentrator and deflector of simple anddurable form is provided and when applied to the burner of a gas stove will effect a saving of the gas in that the flame will be concentrated under the center of the bottom of a utensil which is placed over the burner, and the flame is fed with oxygen which will assure the complete consumption of the gas while in flame and at the stellaform opening of'the plate attachment. The stellaform configuration of the opening 2 gives the marginal edges of the flame maximum dimensions and hence a large flame is produced in minimum area.
aving described the invention, what is claimed is:
A burner attachment comprising a coneshaped plate provided at its center and at the apex of the cone with a stellaform opening and provided at its under side with radially disposed ribs which are located between the outer ends of the points of the opening.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
