To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that we, IsAAo H. WEINBERG land CHARLES F. BISBING, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New Fork and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Umbrella-Cover, of which the following 1s a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements 1n umbrella covers, an object of the invention being to so construct the cover as to permit the same to be readily moved onto or off `.of a rolled umbrella without danger of splitting or raveling the umbrella cover at 1ts seam.

Umbrella covers as heretofore constructed with an opening or placket at one end are necessarily made as small in diameter or circumference as possibleto t snugly over a rolled umbrella. In drawing these covers onto rolled umbrellas it frequently happens that the threads or material is broken or raveled due to the fact that the umbrella is imperfectly rolled and undue stresses and strains are applied to the cover to draw 1t into position or to pull the cover of of the rolled umbrella.

It is the purpose of our invention to so construct a cover as to permit of a certain amount of stretching so that the cover can be easily drawn over a rolled umbrella and will snugly fit around the same to provide a neat and ornamental addition to the umbrella and one which will prevent injury such as above referred to.

With these and other objects in/view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and a1'- rangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in elevation illustrating the upper portion of our improved umbrella cover.

Fig. 2 is an exaggerated view in section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating a modification.

Fig. 4 is an exaggerated view in section on the line 4 4 ofig. 3.

cover 2 is providedl with an opening or placket 3 at one end and a gusset 4 of rubber, elastic fabric, or` any other suitable elastic material is secured in the inner end of the placket and is of general triangular shape secured preferably by lines of stitch-k ing 'as indicated at 5.

ThisV gusset 4 permits the cover to stretch laterally or transversely so as to allow it to ride over or' fit over the enlarged portion of the rolled umbrella. Furthermore, the gusset is a medium of strengthbecause of its extended lines of stitching 5 and a tendency to tear or open the seam 6 of the cover is obviated.

This cover 2 is provided with snap button members 7 and 8 to secure the same around the upper end of the ribs 9 of the umbrella.

I n Fig. 3 we illustrate a modification in which we 'provide a relatively long gusset 10 secured to the edges of the cover 11 by means of lines of stitching 12 and provided around the end of the cover an elastic rin or tape 13 which is secured throughout the edge or end of the cover and the latter is provided with suicient slack or shirrig, as shown at 14, to compensate for the stretching of the ring' or tape 13 and the gusset 1() in manipulating the cover over the umbrella.

With this form of cover it will be noted that we dispense altogether with any fastening means and rely solely upon the elasticity of the gusset 10 and the ring or tape 13 which insures a snug t of the cover around the umbrella.

'Various other slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described lwithout departing from the invention, and hence we do not limit ourselves to the precise details set forth, but consider ourselves at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

We claim:

1. As a new article of manufacture, an umbrella cover having an umbrella entrance end, and an elastic gussetsecured in the cover at its entrance end.

2. As a new article of manufacture, an

umbrella cover having an opening or placket shaped elastic gusset secured to tl1e cover at the inner end of theplacketand secured to the edgescf the placket.

3. As anew article of mannfactu're; an" 5 umbrella cover havingan opening or placket f in its side at one end, and a triangular shaped elastic gusset secured to the cover'at` f the inner end of the placket, and `secured toY the edges ofthe placket, said gusset located at theend of the longitudinal seam of the 10 cover.
