IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,097, dated April 22, 1873; application vled March 1, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REGINALD R. PARKER, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neck-Ties, of which the following is a specication:
The object of this invention is to improve, simplify, and cheapen neck-ties; and it consists in the manner of folding the silk or goods of Which the neck-tie is made over the corners oi' the shield.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a view of the back of a neck-tie constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a viewV of the front of the neck-tie, showing it as it is Worn.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the shield, which is usually made of pasteboard or similar material. B is the silk, satin, or goods which is attached to and across the front of the shield, and forms the bow. The ordinary way is to cover both sides of the shield with the same goods, which mode involves a great deal of hand-Work and additional material, and the shield is unavoidably thick and clumsy in appearance. To overcome this difficulty I cut the silk, as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 1, Which'I intend for those corners, the form being a rhomb, marked D, which is folded through the center or from one obtuse angle to the other. The material in the form of the triangle E is folded onto theJ back ot' the shield, which' brings the angle f to the point g. The triangle H is then folded down and tucked in between the shield and the covering, wh ich makes a smooth finish. The triangle H, when thus folded down, is securely stitched to the shield, so that the finish is not only smooth but durable.
By this mode less material and labor are required than by the old method, Vwhile the tie presents a more neat and tasteful appearance.
Having thus describedmy invention, I claim as new and desire to secureV by Letters Patent- 1. A neck-tie having the points C C covered by folded-down triangular pieces E and H, substantially in the manner described.
2. The triangular piece E, in combination With the shield A, as and for the purpose set forth.
