T. Johnson and myself January 15th, 1918. the object .being to simplify the construction; to save weight and also provide more space at one end ofthe truck vwhichflcan be utilized advantageously in' providing more room for draft gear and draft gear devices.
I A further object is to provide a bolster system which will transmit both the side and center bearing. loads properly to the truck frame and also which will permit of the comparatively easy removal and replace ment of the center axle and its'wheels.
Withthese andother objects in view, my invention consists in the details of construction as will be more fully explained and pointed out in the claims.

Transverse bolster 12 is mounted at its ,e nds on springs 13 carried by the side names 7 in a vertical plane between the center axle and one end axle and is provided with two integral parallel longitudinal bolsters 14 the free ends of which are hook shapeas at 15 to engage and rest on the top surface of the transverse bolster 12,.which latter is in a vertical plane between the center axle 9 and one of the end axles 10. The hook "shaped ends of the longitudinal bolsters 14 are constructed to make a close fit with bolster 12 so as to prevent any material movement of either with relation to the other, and the transverse bolster 12 is provided on its front and rear faces with the ribs 16 which prevent any lateral sliding movement of the longitudinal bolsters on the transverse bolster 12 The longitudinal'bolsters 14 are parallel and are located intermediate, the wheels on the central axle 9 and carry the main bolster 17, which latter is cast integral at its ends with the longitudinalbolsters 141- and form an integral part 01"" the latter and also of the transverse bolster 12. The main bolster 17 extends transversely of the truck over the center axle and is provided centrally with the usual center bearing 18.- With this construction the weight ofthe center or main bolster 17 andits load will be suflicient to retain the free ends of the longitudinal bolsters 14: in looking engagement with transverse bolster 12, without any securing devices other than thelugs 16.
. The main or central bolster 17 must be designed especially for heavy loads, anol in order to possess the required strength it must have sufficient depth at its central portion. To provide for this necessary depth, without raising the center bearing, and without introducing features which would interfere with the easy removal of the middle axle, I have left'the bottom of the bolster open as shown in Fig. 3 so as to permit of the free passage and movement of the middle axle.
The top members of the longitudinal bolsters are as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4 provided with flat shelf like projections 19 for the attachment of side bearings,-whieh projections are in a plane above the main bolster and also above the transverse bolster as clearly shown in Fig. 4-, thus providing ample means for carrying the side bearing loads and obviating the necessity of using side bearing bridges or carrying members.
With the construction as shown, the centers of the longitudinal bolsters are in a plane above the transverse bolster and sufficiently high to carry the side bearings, and the transverse and center bolster are sufficiently low down to provide ample room for the draft gear. Again by making the longitudinal bolster integral with one of the transverse bolsters additional space is provided at one end of the truck which can advantageously be used by the draft gear and draft gear devices, and by making one of the transverse bolsters separate from the other it.can be'easily removed with its corresponding wheels, thus rendering the mid dleaxle accessible for removal.
It is evident that many slight changes might be resorted to in the relative arrangement of parts shown and described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention hence I would have it understood that I do not wish to confine myself to the exact construction and arrangement of parts shown and described but,
Having fully described my invention what ll claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

In asix wheel truck, the combination of a truck frame each side of which is com-- posed of two connected members, two transverse bolsters independent of said side members and supported at their ends thereby, two longitudinal parallel bolsters integral with one of said. transverse bolsters and having interlocking connection at their free ends with the other transverse bolster, and a center or main bolster carried by the two longitudnal bolsters.
2. In a six wheel truck, the combination of a truck frame each side of which is composed of two connected members, two transverse bolsters independent of said side members and supported at their free ends by thelatter, two longitudinal parallel bolsters integral with one of said transverse'bolsters and each having interlocking engagement at it-sfree end with the other transverse bolster, and a main or center bolster cast integral with the two longitudinal bolsters.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a transverse bolster, two longitudinal parallel bolsters cast integral at one endwith said transverse bolster and free at their other ends each free end being provided with means for interlocking it to another transverse bolster, and a main or center bolster cast integral with the two longitudinal bolsters.
In a six wheel truck, the combination of side frames, two transverse bolsters independent of the side frames and supported at their ends thereby, two longitudinal parallel bolsters cast integral'with one of the transverse bolsters and projecting upwardly at the center to provide side bearing supports, each of said longitudinal bolsters being-provided at its free end with means for interlocking it with the other transverse bolster, and a main or center bolster integral with the two longitudinal bolsters.
