WILLIAM MARK PALMER, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
ADVERTISING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM MARK,
PALMER, a citizen of the United States, residing in Bufialo, in the county of Erie and the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an advertising device and more particularly one which stimulates the sending of telegrams for various purposes.
The object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in In its general organization this advertising device comprises a rotatable table upon which a map or similar delineation is represented. Carried by the table are one or more guideways which connect one city or place with another andupon' which movable objects bearing suitable advertising matter are guided. As the table rotates, these objects slide successively from one end of the uideway to for instance, that a telegram is being sent from one city to another.
10 indicates the plate or table rotatably mounted on a post 11 carried by a standard 12, and preferably inclined to the horizontal and revolving about the axis of said post. This table may be rotated by various means, but preferably by an electric motor 13 suitably mounted on the standard 12. Motion is transmitted from the motor shaft 1 1 to an intermediate shaft 15 by a belt 16 passing around pulleys 17 and 18 mounted on the respective shafts 14 and 15. Mounted on the shaft 15 is a worm 19meshing with a worm wheel 20 keyed to one end of a shaft 21 journaled in a bearing bracket 22, while its opposite end is provided with a pulley 23 op-.
the other by gravity, indicating Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented J 1 9 *7, 19 21. Application filed January 19, 1920. Serial No. 352,334. r i I 10. By this driving mechanism the table is slowly and constantly rotated in a clockwise direction.
The outer or exposed front face ofthis table has represented thereon a map or other suitable delineation and arranged thereon are one or more guideways 26which are disposed above and parallel" with the face of the table. These guideways are preferably in the form of tracks, each track being composed of two parallel wires which are sup- 4 ported at thelr opposite ends onposts 27 suitably secured to the table 10. These posts are located at different points of themap representing difierent cities, as clearly shown n F g. 1. Movably guided on each track is a slidable object or message carrier 28 constructed of metal or other appropriate material and depending from the underside of said carrier are a pair of tubular guide bearings 29 which engage the corresponding wires of each track and serve to guide the being sufficient for effecting this movement.
The exposed upper surface of each carrier has representedthereon suitable advertising matter, for example, messa es illustrating the advantages of sending te egrams for various purposes. This advertising matter may be inscribed directly on the exposed face of the carrier or upon a strip 30 of paper or cardboard glued or otherwise secured to the upper side of said carrier.
To prevent each carrier 28 from directly striking the posts 27, step pins 31 are the tened to the table 10 and in front of each of saidposts. These stop pins are preferably arrangedbetween the track wires and project above the plane thereof so as to be in the path of the carrier and allow the transverse edge thereof to strike the pin and stop its movement.
This advertising device is especially adapted for illustrating the advantages'of sending telegrams from one point to another, although it is applicable to other uses of a similar nature. As the table rotates, the carriers 28 bearing the advertising matter slide from one point to another whereby t e interest of the public is attracted and the business of the advertiser benefited- I claim as my invention:
1. An advertising device comprising a table rotatable about a substantially hori- Zontal axis, means for rotating said table, a guideway arranged on the face of the said table and Within the dimensional ar athereof, and a slidable object movable by gravity on said guideway.
2. An advertising device comprising a rotatable table having a map represented thereon, means for rotating said table, a guideWay connecting two points on said map, and a slidable object movable on said o guideway.
3. An advertising device comprising a rotatable table means for rotating said table posts mounted on said table, a guide- Way connectingsaid posts, and a slidable object movable on said guideway.
4. An advertising device comprising a rotatable table, means for rotating said table, posts mounted on said table, a guide- Way connecting said posts, a slidable object movable on said guidevvay, and means for limiting the extent of travel of said slidable object. I v
5. An advertising device comprising a rotatable table, means for rotating said table, posts mounted on said table, a guide- Way connecting said posts and supported thereby, a slidable object movable on said guideway, and a stop arranged at opposite ends of the latter and in the path of said slidable object.
6. An advertising device comprising a rotatable table having a map represented thereon, means for rotating said table, posts mounted on said table at different points on said map representing cities, a guideway connecting said posts, a slidable object bearing advertising matter movable by gravity on said guideway, and a stop arranged at opposite ends of the latter for limiting the extent of travel of said slidable object.
7. An advertising device comprising a rotatable table, posts mounted on said table, a guideway connecting said postsan'd composed of tWo parallel tracks disposed above the surface of said table and parallel there With, a slidable object having bearing members engaging the tracks of said guideWay andva stop arranged at opposite ends of the latter and in the path of said slidable object,
the latter being movable on said guideway by gravity during the rotation of said table.
WILLIAM MARK PALMER.
