IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-WASHING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,046, dated April 22, 1873; application filed July 11, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FREDERICK ScHLrcH and ADRIAN FEYH, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in BottleWVashing Apparatus; and the following is declared to be a correct description thereof.
This invention is for washing the insides of bottles, such as those used for beer, soda-water, wine, 850., whereby all impurities are removed, and the bottle allowed to drain suifi ciently to remove any water that in the ordinary washing operation might remain in the bottle.
The bottles, as they are received into the bottling establishment, are preferably put into a tub or vat of water and allowed to soak a sufficient time to soften any foreign matter that may adhere to either the inside or the outside of the bottles. The outside of the bottles are washed off, and each bottle is illverted and placed over a nipple and within a support, and water is turned on through the nipple and the jet washes the inside of the bottle, and in this position of the bottles the Water drains out rapidly as soon as the supply is shut off.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a vertical section of the bottle, its holder, and the jet-nipple. Fig. 2 is a plan of the parts with the bottle in section, and Fig. 3 is a plan illustratin g these washers arranged in two rows.
A number of jet-nipples, a, are attached to a water-pipe, b, and each is provided with a ring, a, carrying uprights d or fingers forming supports to steady the bottle centrally over the jet-nipple a. These supports 01 are of a length and shape suitable for the bottle to be washed. With earthen beenbottles the supports 01 will be short, as shown, for the neck to rest upon. With soda-water bottles and wine-bottles the supports will be longer so as to impinge at the tapering sides or neck.
These supports and jet-nipples are to be ar ranged in rows or clusters, preferably in two clusters or rows, so that the attendant is filling one row or cluster with bottles while the bottles in a previously-filled row or cluster are being washed or rinsed out; then the water is shutoff from the first row or cluster and turned upon the second to wash them out while the first row is being removed and their places refilled, and the operation proceeded with as before.
The jet-nipples a'may be provided with numerous holes, if desired.
We claim as our invention- The bottlewashing apparatus, made of the jet-nipples a, and bottle-supporting fingers d, arranged in the manner and for the purposes specified.
