To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Louis LAVAL, a citi- Zen of the Kingdom of Netherlands, residing at Kansas City. inthe county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Games, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in games.

It relates particularly to an angling game, in which members representing submarine boats are removably mounted on a suitable base representing the ocean from which the players remove the boats with hooks and lines.

The object of my invention is to provide a game which is simple in construction and operation, which is cheap to manufacture, which is entertaining to old and young, and in which the parts may be compactly and safely stored when not in use.

The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,

Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of one of the boats shown mounted in the cover, a. portion of which is shown in vertical section.

Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.

1 designates a rectangular box having a cover 2 which is provided with downwardly extending end and side flanges 3 adapted to be slidably fitted in the body 1 of the box, as shown 1n Figs. 1 and 2.

The box forms a base for supporting removable members 4-, preferably pieces of card board shaped to represent submarine boats, the lower edges of which are adapted to rest upon the top of the cover 2. Each member 4 is provided at its lower edge with a downwardly extending keel projection 5. The projections 5 are adapted to be respectively removably inserted in a plurallty of vertical holes 6 in the top of the cover 2,

as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

The end edges of each projection 5 preferably taper downwardly to permit the easy insertion and removal. of the PIOJBCtlOIlS Specification of Letters Patent.

with respect to the holes 6. The width of the slots or holes 6 is such that the boats when mounted on the cover are retained in a vertical position. The top of the cover may be painted or otherwise ornamented so to represent a marine view.

The depth of the box 1 is such that the projections 5 will not touch the bottom of the box when the boats 4 are mounted in the operative position.

Each boat member l is provided with one or more perforations 7 extending transversely therethrough'and adapted to receive the free end 8 of any one of a plurality of hooks 9, each of which has attached to it a line 10, which in turn is supported upon the pole 11. Preferably the keel projection 5 is located centrally of the member 4, and the holes '7 are disposed adjacent to the respective ends of the boat member 4.

In order that the hook ends 8 cannot be too easily inserted into the holes 7, each of said holes or perforations 7 is disposed below the upper end of the part 8 of the hook, when the latter is resting on the cover 2 in a vertical position, as shown in Fig. 2.

The boat members 1 are preferably provided with characters respectively representing different values. In the drawing, Fig. 1, nine boat members A are shown respectively mounted in nine slots or holes 6 in the cover 2. These boat members are respectively inscribed with numerals 1 to' V 9, inclusive.

Each player is provided with a pole, line and hook, and there may be such number of players as may be desired.

Any desired set of rules may be provided for playing the same. In starting the game,

all of the boats are mounted in the holes 6 of the cover in the upright position as shown in the drawing. As the projectionsv shortest possible time, as many boats of high valuation as he can. After all the boats have been fished from the cover, the player having boats aggregating the highest valuation, wins the game; After the game is over the boats 4 and the poles, hooks and lines may be stored in the box 1, the cover 2 being removable for this purpose.

I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit or my invention.

VJ hat I claim is 1. In a game of the kind described, a base having in its upper side a vertical slot and a relatively thin flat removable member having adjacent to its ends respectively at its lower edge two fiat portions adapted to rest upon said base'and provided intermediate of said fiat portions with a keel portion adapted to enter said slot, the end edges of the keel portion converging downwardly toward each other, said removable member having respectively adjacent to its ends over said fiat edge portions two transverse perforations, either of which is adapted to receive a removing hook, substantially as set forth.

2. In a game of the kind described, a base having a plurality of vertical slots in its upper side, removabl members adapted to rest on the base and having each a keel adapted for insertion into any one of said slots, the end edges of the keel converging downwardly, each of said meinbershaving adjacent to each end a perforation, and a hook and line, the end of the hook being adapted to enter either of the perforations in any one of said members, the end of the hook being higher than said perforations when the hook is resting on the base in a vertical position.
