In the machine frame 10 a motor 11 is mounted provided with a starting handle 12 and clutch throwing lever 13. Near its lower rear end the frame carries a platform 14: for the operator and in front of the same steering wheel 15 for the operation of the steering roller 16 on the axle 17 suspended by hangers 18, 19 and 20 .of which 19 is suspended from a bar 21 Fig. 3 secured in the side walls 21 and 22 of the frame through the center of which a steering shaft 23 is extending, the lower end of which is secured to the roller 16 and which passes through a turn-table 24 coiiperating with a similar turn-table 25 suspendedfrom the platform 26, carrying the motor,by means of rods 27 and 28.
In front of the motor the platform 26 carries a pair of links 29 in which a shaft 30 is journaled carrying a sprocket wheel 31 3 on one, and a similar wheel 32 Fig. 1 at the opposite side of the machine. In approximately its'middlethe shaft 30 carries a fixed clutch member 33 and a movable clutch member 34 coeperating with the member 33 Fig. 1 over which a belt 35 is running, guided over the motor shaft and adapted. to be operated by the belt shifting lever 13.
Over the sprocket wheel 31 a chain 36is guided which is also guided over a sprocket wheel 37 upon the axle 38 of a roller 39 j ournaled in the machine frame. On the axle 38 is also mounted in front of the sprocket wheel 37 another sprocket wheel 10 over which a chain 41 is guided which runs over a sprocket wheel 42 on a shaft 43 journaled in the machine frame 10 which shaft carries within a hopper 414 at the front end of the machine frame a stirring device 45 for the sand or clay-4:6 with which the hopper is filled for a purpose hereafter more fully to be described. a
The hopper 4.4 has in its rear wall a door or opening 4L7 adapted to be closed by the slide 48 sliding in guides 19 and 50 secured to the outer wall of the hopper. This slide has at its outer face the shape of a rack 51 with the teeth 52 of which the teeth 53 of a periphery of the roller 16, while a similar holder 62 is secured to the machine frame and carries a brush 63 working against the periphery of the roller 39 to keep the same clean.
On a shaft 64, journaled in the machine frame, a sprocket wheel 65 is secured over which a chain 66 is guided, running over a sprocket wheel 67 on a crank shaft 68 journaled in the frame near the bottom thereof. The shaft 64 is rotated by means of a belt 69 guided over a pulley 70 on said shaft laterally disposed to the sprocket wheel 65 which is also guided over a pulley 71 by the side of the sprocket wheel 31 on the shaft 30.
The crank shaft 68 is connected by links 7-2 and 7 3 with a movable plate 7 4 carrying rake teeth 75, or if desired, with a plate 7 6 carrying a brush 77 as indicated in Fig. 5. These plates are exchangeably held within a frame 78 secured in the sides of the machine frame and provided with upstanding links 7 9 to the upper ends of which the front end of an operating lever or rod 80 one on each side of the machine is pivotally secured at 80 which is extended to the rear of the machine and through the rear wall thereof where it is provided with a toothed segment 81. Intermediate its length the rod 80 is provided with noses upon which are pivoted pivotal link connections 82 and 83 as shown in.Fig. 2. V
The front wall'of the hopper is extended as at 84 in order to guide the same in front of the roller 39, while in front of this extension 84 a holder 85 is secured to link connection 82 and this holder carries a stone rake 86 suspended on the opposite side of the machine frame in a similar manner as indicated at 87 Fig. 7 In front of said rake 86a shaft 88 is journaled in the machine frame and carries a sprocket wheel 89 over which a chain 90 is guided which also runs over a sprocket wheel on the shaft 64. On the shaft 88 a pulley 91 is secured laterally disposed to the sprocket wheel 89 over which a conveyer 92 is running which is also guided over a pulley 93 of a stone collector 94 secured at the front end of the machine frame which is provided with a front door 95 at its lower front end through which the stone may be removed. To the link 83 is pivotally secured a holder 83' which is rotatably secured to one end of a shaft 95, our naled with its other end in the opposite side wall of the machine, which. shaft or axle 95 carries a wire brush 96. A chain 81 is connecting the wheels 81 at the rear wall of the machine.
Near the sprocket wheel 31 on one end of the shaft 30 is secured a fixed clutch member 101 adapted to be engaged by a movable clutch member 102 on shaft 30 which is adapted to be operated by means of an op erating handle 103 at the rear of the machine platform 26. By means of this clutch the rake operating shafts and gears are connected to the driving shaft and when it is desired to dispense with their services during the operating of the other elements, for instance the brush elements, the clutch member 101, 102 are separated by the suitable operation of the handle 103.
In a similar manner the sprocket wheel 32 on shaft 30 near the opposite end thereof has laterally disposed thereto a fixed clutch member 104 adapted to be engaged by a movable clutch member 105 also on shaft 30 upon the operation of the clutch actuating handle 106 also at the rear end of the machine platform 26. These clutch members 104, 105 when connected, will connect the operating gears and shafts of the brush elements with the driving. shaft.
As shown in Fig. 3, the steering handle 15 is moved above a segment plate 107 at the rear end wall of the machine provided with teeth 108 at its upper face between which the handle 15 is temporarily engaged according to the direction of driving the machine.
In operation, the operator starts the motor after the hopper 44 has been filled with sand or clay, according to thenature of the work to be performed by the machine, and con nects the driving shaft by means of the clutch withthe motor shaft, and by the operation of the clutch handles 103, and 106, either simultaneously or alternately, couples the driving shaft with the brush-or rake-operating means as required, while the stone rake will rake the stones etc., encountered upon the conveyer which will transport the same into the stone-collecting vessel from where they may be removed, if required or necessary. The opening in the hopper bottom is regulated according to the quantity of sand or clay to be distributed over the ground by means of the hand-wheel 59. According to requirement, either a plate 74 provided with rake teeth 75, or a plate 7 6 provided with a brush 7 7 may be placed into the frame 7 8.
It will be clear that according to the nature of the work to be performed, the succession of the single operations is to be charged asv for instance first the rakes may be used to level the ground, or the operation of the rakes may be dispensed with and the ground be worked by the brushes and rollers only for instance after a rain both of the rollers may be used for leveling purposes.
