CARBOY PACKAGE.
APPLICATION FILEDv Nov. 22,1920.
Patented May 31, 1921 Arrow/frs l of Penn nacen.
Application led November 22,
To all wlwm it that I, CLARENCE ,-W. Rincer.,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of Easton county of Northampton, State syivania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carboy-Packages, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to carboy packages of the type in which the body of thecarboy is inclosed in a container generally made of wood .and provided in its top withl an aperture throughwhich the vnemk of the carboy protrudes. The object ofmy invention is to provide a carboy package of this class in which the protruding neck of the carboy isadequately protected against breakage in a novel and improved manner and so as to preserve the general rectangular lines of the package to'facilitate storing and shipping thereof. Other more specific objects of my invention will appear from the description hereinafter, and the features of lnovelty will be pointed out in the appended claims. Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings which illustrate an. example of my invention without defining its limits and in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of the carboy package; Fig. 2 1s an elevation thereof; Fig. 3 1s a sectional elevation on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
In. its illustrated example, the carboy package comprises the customary container 5 of rectangular florm and constructed of an suitable material such as wood and provi ed interiorly with reinforcements in the form of corner posts 6. The latter are `preferably of triangular cross-section so as to fit into the corners of the container 5 and may be provided with spaced resilient strips 7 arranged to bear against the body of the carboy 8 to maintain the same in a relatively fixed position within the container. The top 8a of the container 5 is constructed in two complemental sections and is provided with th which the neck 10 of the carboy protrudes as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The container 5 may further be provided with exterior strips 11 secured alo g opposite sides thereof and undercut to afford a means for readily lifting the package. As so far described, the carboy package may be of any suitable and TON, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T0 W YORK, N. Y., A wCKYRPORATION 0F NEW YO Specication of Letters Patent.

well known construction and may include any features customarily found therein.
s shown in'Figs. 1 and 3, the corner posts 6 are contlnued upwardly beyond the top 8fi of the container 5 to form extenslons 6a which thelr upperf e ends by means of crosspleces 12. Similarly, two opposite side walls of the container 5 are contlnued upwardly beyond the top 8a as shown at 5a n alled 'or otherwise secured -to the extension 6a of the corner posts 6. The carboy package further includes a cover 13 which 1s located in spaced parallel relation to the top 8a and` as shown in the illustrated examp-le, may be hinged aft 14 to one of the cross-pleces 12 and in such 'case may be provided with a locking means 15 of any conventlonal form or which may be fastened 1n place by means of1 nails, screws or other similar fastening devices. y improved seen` fromithe drawings, therefore comprises the usual container for the carboy and a continuing superstructure which ma be closed at two sides and open at two` si es to permit pouring out of the contents of the carboy 8. ture, by extending over and about the neck 10 of the carboy, protects it against impacts, blows and the like and consequently reduces the possibility of the breakage of said neck or injury thereto to a minimum; at the same time, the arrangement of the superstructure is such as to preserve the general rectangular form of the carboy package. As a'result of this, all exposed surfaces of the carboy -i ackage are fiat so that it is possible to e cientl store andA ship my improved carboy pac ages in a minimum ofspace and in an even and uniform manner. At the same time, the carboy package is economical and may be produced without the assistance of any specially skilled labor in its construction. To reillthe carboy, it is simply necessary to swing the cover 13 to an open position ifl the same is of the hinged type or to remove it from the carboy package by withdrawing the nails, screws or other fastening devices hereinbefore referred to.
Various changes in the specic construc- `tion shown and described may be .made withs superstrucare preferably connected at E daim: l l., A @whey paekage comprising a con.- tainer for au eerboy and provided in its top with an aperture through which the neck 5 of the carboy is arranged toy potmde, reinforcing membes extending engthwse 0f said container and continued upwardly beyo'd its top, members secured toy said reinforcing members be ferm upward continu ations of the upright Wals o said container and e oever extending over the ends of said reinforcing membem in spacedj 'paralel relation te the top of said eontamer.
2. A eerbey package comprising a. ree-1 l mnguar conm-ine? for a, Aoerboy and provided in im @ep with en epeuxe through medew which the meek of the cerboy is arrmged im protrude, int/evier comer posts leem/ed in the comers of said container and continued upwardly beyond the top thelee, eross- 220 pieces connecting the contnuations of seid comer poste in pairs, members seemed to said centinuations of the comer poss t0- 'orm upward eoninuatona of zwo opposite side Walls of the @meiner and ac @over hinged te one of seid cross-pieces and el# ranged te lie over the free ends of seid coif-1 ner peeae in sygrelced7 parallel relation to the top of seid @fonteinen Tin teseimeny whereof have hereunto sei; Se
