VICTOR DE sonnrrnn, or NEw YoRK, N. Y.
WINDOW-REFRIGERATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. P t t a 31, 192 I Application filed February 24, 1919 Serial No. 278,846.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VICTOR Dr. Sormrrnn, a citizen of Belgium, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window-Refrigerators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of provision safes known as window refrigerators, the same being mounted in or so associated with a window that the contents of the safe are exposed to the external atmosphere and thus kept cool and fresh without the use of ice. 7
The invention has for its object to provide a simple and efficient device of the kind stated, and also one which can be readily mounted in place at the window, and which is easily accessible.
WVith the objects stated in View, the invention consists in a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing form- I ing a part of this specification.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device as seen from the inside of the room;
F ig. 2 is a horizontal section of the device and that portion of the window frame in which it is supported, and I Fig. 3 is an elevation of the device viewed from the outside.
Referring specifically to the drawing 5 denotes the bottom sash of a window which is 'slidably mounted in a frame constructed in the ordinary manner and having an inside ledge or shelf 6 at the bottom. On the sides of the window frame are the usual molding strips 7 behind which the sash 5 slides. I
The provision safe or refrigerator comprises a rectangular box 8 having one of its sides 9 hinged, as shown at 10, forming a door to permit access to the interior of the box, a suitable catch or look 11 being provided to hold the door closed. The opposite side wall 12 of the box carries an adjustable plate or slide 13 for holding the box in place. This plate is fastened to the wall 12 adjacent to one end of the box by a bolt 14 provided with a wing nut 15. The bolt passes through a horizontal slot 16 in the wall 12 so that the plate may be adjusted in the direction of its length to project the required vided with an opening mentioned sidewall on permit vertical adjustment of the plate.
The height of the the box.
The side wall 12 of the box is also pro- 18 which is covered by a screen 19. This opening does not extend throughout the entire length of the box so as to permit the attachment of the slide plate is less than that of plate 13, nor does it extend throughoutthe entire height of the box. When the box is positioned in the window frame, the lower sash 5 will be raised just far enough to leave the opening 18 exposed, as shown in Fig. 3.
The box 8 rests on the ledge or shelf 6 and it is held in this position byprojecting the slide plate 13 from the end of the box until it comes behind one of the molding strips 7, as shown in Fig. 2, and with the bottom rail of the sash 5 resting on the top edge of the slide plate. The box 8 and the slide plate 13 now completely close up the space beneath the raised sash- 5, and as the I opening 18 faces outward into this space, the interior of the box is ventilated and exposed to the cold air on the outside of the iwindow. The door 9 is, ofcourse, on the,,
from entering the room.
I claim: 7 Y
A provision safe for attachment tov a window, comprising a box the interior of which is accessible from one side, and the opposite side wallof the boX having an airinlet opening the height of which is less than that of the box, and a vertically adjustable retaining slide carried by the lastthe outside thereof and adjustable to project laterally from one end of the box, the height of the slide being also less than that of the box and corresponding to the height of the air-inlet opening. j p
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
VICTOR DE SCHEPPER.
