To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Enio M. Pnrrz, citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Files, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in files, adapted for auger bit filing and the like, while not necessarily restricted to this use.
An important object of the invention is to provide a file of the above mentioned character, so constructed that all of its surfaces may be employed or utilized in auger bit filing or the like.
A further object of the'invention is to provide a file of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, and convenient in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is an edge elevation of a file embodying my invention,

Fig. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal section taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 2,
Fig. i is a similar view taken on line 1-4 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 6 is a similar view through a file which is semicircular in cross section,
Fig. 7 is a similar view through a file which is circular in cross section,
Fig. 8 is a transverse section through a file which is triangular in cross section, and,
Fig. 9 is a similar view through a file which is square in cross section.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration are shown preferred embodiments of my invention, attention being called first to Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, the numeral 10 designates a file as a whole, having oppositely arranged faces A and B, which are fiat, as more clearly shown in Fig. 5. This file has flat edges C and D. At its opposite ends, the file 10 is provided with tangs 11 and 12, for the reception of handles, as is well known.

The numerals 13 and 13, designate sets of teeth, disposedL upon the opposite faces A. and B, and estending about the edge C, in the form of a set of teeth 14, which are in efiect a continuation of the sets 13 and 13. The sets of teeth 18, 13, and 1 1, are adapted to function when the file is stroked forwardly, in the direction of the arrow in proximity thereto, this stroke being effected principally by the tang 12. r
The numerals 15 and 15 designate sets of te th, formed upon the sides or faces A and B, and extend about the edge D in the form of teeth 16, which are in effect a continuation of the teeth 15 and 15. The teeth 15, 15, and 16 are adapted to cut when the file is moved rearwardly in Fig. 2, in the direction of the arrow in proximity thereto. As shown in Fig, 2, the two sets of teeth upon each side or face of the file are separate and face in opposite directions.
In Fig. 6 I have shown a file 17, having a curved face E and a fiat face F. The curved face E is provided with the two longitudinal sets of teeth 13 and 15, and the flat face F has the two sets 13 and 15.
In Fig. 7 a file 18 is shown, having semicircular faces G and H, as shown. The face G has the teeth 13 and 15. while the face H carries the teeth 13 and 15.
In Fig. 8, the file 19 is triangular in cross section and has three faces I, each of which is equipped with the longitudinal sets of teeth 13 and 15, as shown.
In Fig. 9. the file 20 is square in cross section, having four faces J. Each of these faces has the two sets 13 and 15 of teeth.
In view of the foregoing description, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art, that I have provided a file which may be conveniently used in auger bit filing, and in similar work, and that all surfaces of the file may be properly utilized.
It is to be understood that the forms of my invention herewith shown and described are to be taken as preferred examples of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A file having oppositely arranged faces, each face being provided with two sets of teeth, the sets of teeth upon each face en tending longitudinally thereof side by side, all of the teeth in each set extending in the same direction, the teeth in each setupon one face of the file extending in the same direction as the teeth upon the same side'of the opposite face, the last named teeth upon the opposite faces being continuous about the edge of the file, the teeth in one set upon each face being inclined in the same directiontransversely of the face with the teeth in the other set upon the other face.
2. A file having a plurality of faces, each face being provided with two sets of teeth, the sets of teeth upon each face extending longitudinally thereof side by side, all of the teeth in each set extending in the same direction, the teeth in each set upon one face extending in the same direction as the teeth in one of the sets upon the other face, the
teeth in one set upon each face being inclined transversely of the face in the same direction as the teeth in the other set upon the same face.
3. A file having a face, said face being provided with two sets of teeth, each set extending longitudinally of the'face throughout the greater portion of the length of the face, said sets being arranged side by side, all of the teeth in each set extending in the same direction, the teeth in one set extending in the opposite direction to the teeth in the other set.
